With the Premier League<\/a> title lifted, Liverpool<\/a> will now look to extend the contract of Georginio Wijnaldum<\/a>\u00a0with talks still ongoing according to Fabrizio Romano.<\/a> The Dutchman currently has just one year remaining on his current deal, meaning he can leave on a free transfer in six months time- a situation Liverpool will be desperate to avoid.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Time for Liverpool to Worry?<\/span><\/h3>\n

The contract talks between Liverpool and Wijnaldum have seemingly been going on for a few months now, yet no agreement has been made. The lack of news will worry Liverpool fans, who have recently seen new contracts for Harvey Elliott<\/a> and Curtis Jones<\/a>, but not for Wijnaldum. One would think that, if a deal were to happen, it would have happened alongside Elliott’s and Jones’ deals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The exit door remains open for the Dutchman, who could replicate Emre Can’s<\/a> decision in 2018 by running down his contract.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With Thiago\u00a0<\/a><\/span>Alc\u00e1ntara\u00a0the constant subject of Liverpool transfer rumours,<\/a> too, the Reds may already be preparing for life without Wijnaldum. Fabrizio Romano<\/a> has, however, confirmed that a bid is yet to be made by Liverpool for Thiago.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jurgen Klopp will be keen to complete Wijnaldum’s contract extension as soon as possible to put an end to any rumours surrounding the Dutchman.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Guinea international has finally started to show his best form in a Liverpool shirt. But, as the praise for Keita has arrived, so has the negativity aimed at Wijnaldum. This comes in spite of the Dutchman’s clear importance to Jurgen Klopp’s side as proven against Barcelona last season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Klopp will be desperate to keep a hold of one of the more experienced midfielders in the Liverpool ranks, and the man moulded for the big occasion.<\/span><\/p>\n
