Liverpool<\/a> legend John Barnes <\/a>has told Sky Sports<\/a> that Liverpool must now strengthen their squad in order to stay on top.<\/p>\n

Barnes, who was part of the last team to win a league title at Anfield in 30-years ago, knows next season will be a tough ask for Jurgen Klopp’s men.<\/p>\n

When speaking about what should happen next with Jurgen Klopp’s men, former England international John Barnes said: ”I feel they should be strengthening the squad – not necessarily going out to buy a superstar like Chelsea have done with Timo Werner<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Barnes went on to say: ”I don’t think we’re (Liverpool) are going to go out and buy superstars. I think we are going to go out and strengthen the squad if you look at our best XI, I don’t think they’re going to want to upset that.”<\/p>\n

Transfers and Youth Prospects<\/h3>\n

Liverpool, who were heavily linked with Werner prior to his switch to Chelsea from RB Leipzig, missed out on the German forward, citing financial issues around the transfer fee. Had Werner joined the Reds, he may have found himself on the fringes of the first-team, the lure of more opportunities may have helped sway him to Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n

Now, with the league coming to a close on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp’s recruitment attention may turn to improving his squad options ahead of next season, when his side will attempt to retain the title.<\/p>\n

With Adam Lallana<\/a> on his way out in the coming weeks and having seen Nathaniel Clyne<\/a> leave at the start of the month, there are some gaps appearing in the Reds squad.<\/p>\n

With more names perhaps departing Anfield, Klopp could look to the transfer market for replacements. Although, youngsters, Curtis Jones<\/a>, Neco Williams<\/a>, and Harvey Elliot<\/a> are expected to see more first-team action next campaign.<\/p>\n
