The Championship<\/a> was at its captivating best on Wednesday night as the final round of matches produced some of the most memorable moments of the season. Everyone thought that Barnsley and Luton Town, the bottom two for so long this season, were certainties for relegation, but both produced the goods right at the last to preserve their respective status’ in the Championship.<\/p>\n

How Barnsley and Luton Town Players Reacted to Their Great Escapes<\/h2>\n

The Strugglers Pull off the Impossible<\/h3>\n

After their 4-0 thrashing by Stoe City at the start of the month, Gerhard Struber’s Barnsley were bottom of the table, five points adrift of Hull City who sat just outside the relegation zone. On the same day, Luton were pulled apart by mid-table Reading, suffering a 5-0 hammering at Kenilworth Road to leave them only a point better off.<\/p>\n

The two sides then shared the points between each other in their next game before embarking on mission impossible to preserve their place in the Championship. Since the draw between the two on July 7, Barnsley have collected seven points and Luton have claimed ten both of which were just about enough.<\/p>\n

They owe a lot to the poor form of Hull City and Charlton Athletic who, in the same time period, collected just two points between them (both of which went to Charlton). There is also the matter of Wigan Athletic’s appeal against their 12-point deduction which has sent them down, however, as it stands, it’s time to celebrate for Barnsley and Luton.<\/p>\n
