Doncaster Rovers have confirmed<\/a> that veteran midfielder James Coppinger<\/a> has signed a one-year contract extension.<\/p>\n

James Coppinger Agrees One-Year Contract Extension<\/h2>\n

The 39-year-old will enter his 17th season as a Doncaster player at the beginning of the 2020\/21 season.<\/p>\n

However, he has confirmed that it will be his last. The midfielder will turn 40 by the end of next season.<\/p>\n

Coppinger’s loyalty and quality on the ball is what has made him a legend at the Keepmoat Stadium. He has made over 600 appearances to date for Doncaster.<\/p>\n

Throughout his time with the club, he has played a part in the key moments. Coppinger has helped the club earn three promotions during his tenure, as well as winning the EFL Trophy in 2007.<\/p>\n

The 39-year-old excels in all areas of the pitch to, making him the ideal box-to-box midfielder. During the 2016\/17, he scored goals and registered 13 assists, as Doncaster were promoted from League Two.<\/p>\n

While he did not have the most successful season in terms of goals in the 2019\/20 campaign – scoring just three times – he still registered eight assists. However, it was not quite enough, as Doncaster missed out on the play-off places.<\/p>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

Speaking about his new one-year deal, Coppinger said: “It was inevitable that I would come back. It was just whether Doncaster were willing to offer me a new contract and there was something on the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m confident I will do all I can to be involved like I did last season in training and playing to prove to the manager that I\u2019m still available and I can still do what he wants me to do<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really positive about going back and I\u2019m really looking forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 39-year-old and Doncaster will be hoping that they can end his career by earning promotion to the Championship next season.<\/p>\n
