Bristol Rovers<\/a> goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola<\/a> has signed a new deal at the club. The Finnish goalkeeper arrived in the summer of 2019 and made over 20 appearances in his first season with the Gas.<\/p>\n

Two-Year Deal<\/h3>\n

Bristol Rovers announced via their website<\/a> the Finnish goalkeeper had committed his future to the club. Jaakkola has signed a new two-year contract with the option of a further year.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old arrived at the club last summer after a brief spell at Reading<\/a>. Jaakkola made a positive impression during his first season, making over 20 appearances.<\/p>\n

He has become a fan favourite for his terrific saves and likeable personality. His first season with the Gas was disrupted due to a shoulder injury. However, the club see him as their long term number one.<\/p>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

Speaking about Jaakkola\u2019s new deal, manager Ben Garner said: \u201cWe are all delighted that Anssi has agreed a contract extension.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPrior to his injury he was having an outstanding season and we are looking forward to Anssi building on the great form he showed up until that point.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Anssi is a great professional and I also see him playing an important role in terms of leadership within our dressing room. Importantly he has a great relationship with Adrian Tucker who continues to develop all of the goalkeepers we have at the club.”<\/p>\n

Goalkeeping coach Adrian Tucker added: \u201cIt\u2019s great for all concerned that Anssi has agreed an extension to stay at the club.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s an experienced goalkeeper with a hunger to improve and is well respected within the squad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was in fantastic form up until his shoulder injury in January. He continued to work hard to be fit for any resumption. He\u2019ll no doubt be a key member of the squad next season.\u201d<\/p>\n
