Lyle Taylor and Chris Solly have been released<\/a> by Championship strugglers Charlton Athletic at the end of their contracts. The pair both refused to play any further part<\/a> in the 2019\/20 season, with Taylor suggesting it was to avoid the possibility of getting injured<\/a> and not being able to find a new club.<\/p>\n

Lyle Taylor and Chris Solly Depart Charlton Athletic<\/h2>\n

Taylor Was a Key Player<\/h3>\n

Monserrat international Taylor was a key part of Charlton’s promotion last season. He scored 21 goals in 41 games for the Addicks as they navigated the League One play-offs and beat Sunderland 2-1 in the final last year.<\/p>\n

His good form has continued this season in the Championship too. He scored 11 goals in 22 games, giving him a rate of scoring once in every two matches in which he featured.<\/p>\n

Taylor was Lee Bowyer’s first signing when he took over at the club, and the 30-year-old also won the clubs Player of the Year award in 2019.<\/p>\n

Solly No Longer a One-Club-Man<\/h3>\n

Defender Solly had spent his entire career at Charlton up until this point, starting in the youth Academy and working his way up to the first team.<\/p>\n

He made his senior debut in 2009 as a substitute against Norwich City<\/a>. His full debut followed shortly after in the EFL Trophy against Barnet, and his first goal was scored in a 3-1 success against Leyton Orient.<\/p>\n

Overall, Solly made 301 league appearances for Charlton, scoring on three occasions.<\/p>\n

What Was Said?<\/h3>\n

Speaking to the club website about the departures, manager Bowyer said<\/a>: \u201cI would like to wish Chris and Lyle the best. They both gave everything for the club every time they pulled on the shirt and they\u2019ve both been an important part of the team during my time here. I wish them all the best for the future.”<\/p>\n
