Manchester United<\/a> goalkeeper Dean Henderson<\/a>, who is on loan at Sheffield United<\/a>, has offered his backing to parent club teammate David De Gea<\/a>.<\/p>\n

De Gea has been at the centre of criticism after making a number of mistakes for United since the Premier League restart, but Henderson believes the Old Trafford faithful should stand by him.<\/p>\n

Looking to Replace De Gea<\/h3>\n

Dean Henderson has always been constant on what he wants.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s clear for everyone to know. I want to play for Manchester United and England<\/a>,” he told TV3, as cited by the Daily Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“It feels like I always hit a brick wall. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity (at Manchester United), maybe I won’t, then I’ll have to look down a different avenue.”<\/p>\n

Give Him a Break<\/h3>\n

Despite looking to step in the shoes of David De Gea, he hasn’t let that affect his judgement of the current Manchester United number one.<\/p>\n

“The fans have to remember what he’s done for the last nine years – he’s been phenomenal.”<\/p>\n

“He’s probably been the best player at United for that time period. He should get another opportunity,” Henderson added.<\/p>\n

It is to be admired how Henderson is thinking less about himself here than one might expect.<\/p>\n

He appears to portray the right amount of arrogance, but remains honest and realistic.<\/p>\n

He is as much a fan as he is a player for Manchester United, exposing his love for the club and objectively speaking on a prominent matter that involves himself.<\/p>\n

It is refreshing to see such a level headed mindset from the young goalkeeper.<\/p>\n

The feeling that he is ‘one of us’ is part of the attraction for Manchester United fans, who want to see him replace De Gea.<\/p>\n

He was pictured in the stands celebrating Marcus Rashford’s debut goal.<\/p>\n

This is a football club that pride itself on the academy shining through at senior level. There’s a special bond between the fans and those players.<\/p>\n

Looking up to De Gea<\/h3>\n

“I’m a young lad. I’m working hard,” Henderson said.<\/p>\n

As has been evident throughout the improvement displayed at Shrewsbury Town<\/a>, Sheffield United, and the like.<\/p>\n

“I’m a fan of the club and I want to play for them. Hopefully I have a career at Man United like David De Gea has.”<\/p>\n
