Rangy Dutch striker Wout Weghorst<\/a> has emerged as a potential close-season target for goal-shy Arsenal<\/a> and Newcastle United<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wolfsburg Striker Heading to England?<\/h3>\n

German newspaper Bild<\/a> report that the 6’5″ VfL Wolfsburg goal-getter looks set to leave the Bundesliga<\/a> club this summer and will command a fee somewhere in the region of \u00a332 million.<\/p>\n

Weghorst has chipped in with 16 goals in 32 league appearances for his club side this season, having weighed in with 17 for Die W\u00f6lfe\u00a0<\/i>previously. He managed 18 for Eredivisie side AK Alkmaar in the campaign before that.<\/p>\n

New Target Man For Gunners or Toon?<\/h3>\n

Such consistency would benefit both Mikel Arteta and Steve Bruce’s respective sides, who have had to endure relying on misfiring strikers for large parts of the Premier League<\/a> season.<\/p>\n

At Arsenal, doubts still linger over the immediate futures of marquee partnership Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang<\/a> and Alexandre Lacazette<\/a>, with the former reportedly open to pastures new after a disappointing season and the latter rumoured to be surplus to requirements after a number of discipline breaches.<\/p>\n

Whilst strikers Joelinton<\/a> and Dwight Gayle<\/a> have found the net for Newcastle in recent fixtures against Sheffield United<\/a> and Aston Villa<\/a> respectively, the Toon Army’s five recognised senior strikers – including Andy Carroll<\/a>, Miguel Almir\u00f3n<\/a> and Yoshinori Muto<\/a> – have only amassed five Premier League goals in 2019\/20.<\/p>\n

The north-east powerhouse look set to be the beneficiaries of a war chest of up to \u00a3300 million should Mike Ashley’s prolonged sale of the club be finalised with a Saudi Arabian based consortium within the coming days. If that fails, American interest has also been reported.<\/a><\/p>\n

Premier League Ready<\/h3>\n

It would seem in Weghorst, any potential Premier League suitor would be acquiring a player who on paper looks ideal for the physical nature of the division.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old has been capped four times for his country but has yet to bag an international goal. He made his debut against England in a 1-0 home defeat for the Netherlands in March 2018.<\/p>\n
