Aston Villa<\/a> manager Dean Smith is facing the possibility of being sacked following his sides 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers<\/a>, according to Birmingham Live <\/a>and\u00a0Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail.<\/a><\/p>\n

Pressure Mounting on Smith<\/h3>\n

With his side slumping to a 1-0<\/a> home defeat at the hands of Wolves on Saturday afternoon, things have become increasingly worrying for Smith at Villa Park.<\/p>\n

Leander Dendoncker’s<\/a> well-timed finish wrapped up all three points for Villa’s Midland rivals, which has only left Smith with a mountain of problems.<\/p>\n

A horrific beginning to Project Restart, the Villains held Sheffield United<\/a> to a goalless draw in their return game, however not without controversy as the Blades had a perfectly good goal cancelled out<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A 2-1 loss to Chelsea<\/a> soon followed a game in which Villa had actually taken the lead. And finally, their most recent game against Wolves, which stretched the clubs winless run to eight matches.<\/p>\n

Relegation Looming?<\/h3>\n

Villa’s recent run of form has unsurprisingly left them in the bottom three in 19th place, with 27 points.<\/p>\n

With six games left including fixtures at champions Liverpool<\/a>, Manchester United<\/a> and Arsenal<\/a>, Villa will have to do all it takes to secure Premier League<\/a> football again for next season.<\/p>\n

Entering this relegation dogfight with Norwich City<\/a>, Bournemouth<\/a>, West Ham United<\/a> and Watford,<\/a> Dean Smith’s side are hoping to prolong their top-flight stay and not make an immediate trip back to the Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Should Smith be sacked?<\/h3>\n

Winless since January, and possessing the worst defensive record in the league, one may argue that Dean Smith’s time at Villa Park is up.<\/p>\n

After winning the ‘Richest Game in Football’ last season, Villa spent approximately \u00a3140m in the transfer market of that summer.<\/p>\n

Keeping hold of Jack Grealish<\/a>, and as stated bringing inexpensive talent including the likes of; Wesley<\/a>, Tyrone Mings<\/a> on a permanent transfer and Douglas Luiz<\/a>, many would argue that Villa have had no excuse to underperform.<\/p>\n

However, one will, of course, be sympathetic to Smith’s case. Smith, unfortunately, lost his father<\/a> in May due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic<\/a>, showing the awful effects it can have on the footballing world.<\/p>\n

Smith also recently slammed Aston Villa’s fixture schedule due to the fact they are the only Premier League side to play four times in eleven days since the restart.<\/p>\n

Whatever happens in the coming weeks, it can not be denied that Dean Smith’s tenure as Aston Villa boss brought many positives back to a club who truly needed it.<\/p>\n
