Blackpool have confirmed that midfielder Jay Spearing<\/a> is to leave the club at the end of June, after the club and player failed to agree terms.<\/p>\n

Three Excellent Years<\/h3>\n

The 31-year-old has been a mainstay at the heart of Blackpool’s midfield since arriving in the Autumn of 2017.<\/p>\n

Spearing only initially arrived on a short-term contract until the end of the season. However, he impressed enough to earn a further two years at Bloomfield Road.<\/p>\n

During the 2017\/18 season, he failed to score, despite making 35 appearances.<\/p>\n

Goals did not necessarily flow for Spearing during his time on the Lancashire coast. However, he did embody the spirit and tenacity of a lower league footballer, putting his body on the line and giving everything he had during every game. It was these displays that eventually earned him the club captaincy.<\/p>\n

What Was Said<\/h3>\n

Speaking about the former Liverpool<\/a> midfielder to the official Blackpool website, Head Coach Neil Critchley said<\/a>: \u201cJay has been a wonderful player and captain of this football club during his time here and we are sorry to see him go.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Club made Jay an offer to stay for the upcoming season, but Jay felt it was time to move on and we fully respect and understand his decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spearing himself said:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s been a privilege to play for and captain Blackpool Football Club.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe support myself and all of the players received during my time here has been incredible. Last year\u2019s Homecoming match will particularly stay with me for a long time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to thank the supporters and the football club and wish everyone the very best going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Posting on his Twitter account<\/a>, the 31-year-old added: “I wish Neil, his staff and the players the best of luck for next season. I have no doubt Neil will make the team a force on the pitch – and with the backing of Simon Sadler I’m sure they will be competing for promotion.”<\/p>\n
