Nathaniel Clyne is among the eight players to be released from Liverpool<\/a>. The right-back joined from Southampton<\/a> in 2015 and was a first-team regular before being plagued by injury and usurped by Trent Alexander-Arnold. He will depart the club when his contract expires on July 1.<\/p>\n

Seven academy players will also leave Anfield at the end of the month. Goalkeepers Dan Atherton, Shamal George and Kai McKenzie-Lyle will depart Anfield, along with Jack Walls, Alex Turner, Abel Rodriques and Isaac Christie-Davies.<\/p>\n

Nathaniel Clyne: Unceremonious Liverpool Exit<\/h3>\n

When Jurgen Klopp arrived in 2015, Clyne was one of the first names on the teamsheet. The right-back impressed observers with his tenacious work rate and his incredible defensive capabilities. In Klopp’s first two seasons at Anfield, the right-back made 93 appearances – even earning a nickname from the German.<\/p>\n

“The manager has called me a machine in the past,’ Clyne said<\/a> in 2016. ‘I’m not entirely sure why – it’s probably because I play in loads of games.”<\/p>\n

However, since 2018, he has barely played at Anfield. Part of the reason is down to injuries. He sustained a horrendous ACL tear that ruled him out for the majority of the season.<\/p>\n

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s emergence also hurt him. The young Scouser has arguably become the best right-back in the league. He also has an incredible dead-ball delivery that Clyne could never replicate.<\/p>\n

Clyne has been training alone at Kirby, Liverpool’s academy ground, proving how he is no longer part of the team.<\/p>\n

A positive development for Clyne is that he will not be short of offers. The right-back has been capped 14 times for England and is a quality player.<\/p>\n

Acadamy Players Let Go<\/h3>\n

Midfielder Isaac Christie-Davies was the biggest surprise to be let go. The young man was impressive in his debut against Aston Villa<\/a> in the League Cup. However, he was a victim of an injury, which set back his progress.<\/p>\n

Another player that fans might be familiar with is goalkeeper Shamal George. The youngster actually made his debut as a striker instead of in goal during a mad pre-season game. But, other than that, he didn’t make much of an impact at Anfield.<\/p>\n
