Gary Rowett will demand a response from his side after their late defeat to Derby County.

Championship Strugglers Barnsley Welcome Millwall yo Oakwell

It is Imperative Barnsley Collect Another Victory

Barnsley will be full of confidence heading into this game after a hard-fought win over QPR last weekend. An early goal settled the nerves and ultimately the contest for Gerhard Struber’s team.

However, wins need to keep on coming if Barnsley are to pull off the great escape. Their home form has been relatively stable since Struber took over. Millwall will certainly give Barnsley a stern examination with the Lions also needing the coveted three points.

The loss of the home crowd will see Barnsley take time to adjust but a win is imperative to their hopes of survival. Victory could see Barnsley move to within just one point of safety.

Millwall Looking to Push The Play-Off Places

Millwall travel to South Yorkshire on the back of a disappointing defeat to Derby County. Despite that defeat, the Lions very much remain in the race to secure a top-six finish.

Millwall are just three points behind sixth-placed Preston North End and Gary Rowett knows a win at struggling Barnsley is vital to their chances. He will demand a response from his side. Their usual rock-solid defence crumbled against Derby.

This is a key game for Millwall and defeat could see their chances of a top-six finish end. Their performances have been good away from The Den with Millwall taking a far more direct approach. Matt Smith is likely to be given the starting birth upfront.

Previous Meeting

Barnsley collected a terrific win at The Den back in December. Patrick Schmidt notched a 94th-minute winner for the Tykes after Millwall thought they had taken a point. Aiden O’Brien equalised with five minutes of the game remaining but it wasn’t enough.

Prediction

This is an important game for both sides for different reasons. Barnsley need the points to avoid the drop. Millwall need the points to maintain a playoff push. Back to back wins will give Barnsley huge confidence and momentum. There is further incentive for the Tykes as they look to complete the league double over the Lions.

Millwall know their away form has been good at times this season. They will fancy their chances of securing more points at Oakwell.

Barnsley 1-0 Millwall

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Barnsley welcome Millwall to Oakwell knowing they must collect another victory in their quest for survival.
