The Reds come into this game on the back of a flat Merseyside derby which saw them drop points. In a game where things could off been very different, Liverpool managed to sneak out of Goodison Park with a point, largely thanks to Alisson.

In contrast, Palace are flying high and are basking in their best run of the season. The Eagles have won their last four games and they are very much in the race to secure European football. A win at Anfield will highlight further belief in Palace side full of confidence.

Liverpool Take On In-Form Crystal Palace

The Wait For the Title Goes on For Liverpool

The Reds can take a major step towards title glory with victory over Crystal Palace. It was always going to take time for teams to get used to the new normal of football. Those factors clearly showed in the Merseyside derby and Jurgen Klopp will want his side to up their game.

Naby Keita was arguably Liverpool’s best player on Sunday and he will certainly keep his place in the team. The Guinea international put in his best display since joining Liverpool. His athleticism, tenacious play and reading of the game was excellent throughout and certainly that performance will give him plenty of confidence.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed prior to the Everton game he expects to have Andrew Robertson and Mohamed Salah fit for the Palace game. However, the German also confirmed James Milner is unlikely to make the match. The veteran Englishman was forced off with injury during the Everton game.

Joel Matip also went off injured during the Everton game and like Milner, the Palace game may come too soon.

A win against Palace will see Liverpool take a gigantic step towards a first league title in 30 years. A stern examination lies ahead but Klopp will fancy his side can get the job done. Liverpool will have to be at their ultimate best against this rampant Crystal Palace team.

Crystal Palace Head to Merseyside Full of Confidence

Roy Hodgson returns to his old stomping ground with his current side beaming with confidence. Palace are enjoying their best run of the season and registered a fourth consecutive Premier League win for the first in their history at Bournemouth.

Palace were slick, confident and dominant through that match. The Eagles head to Anfield sitting in the top half of the table and just four points behind Wolves in sixth. Jordan Ayew is full of confidence and became the highest scoring Ghanian international in Premier League history on Saturday. He is the main man for goals at Palace. Certainly, Ayew will look to take any opportunities he gets at Anfield.

Crystal Palace have a habit of upsetting Liverpool and certainly with the form they are in, they will fancy their chances. The counter-attack is where Palace will reap the rewards because, like many other teams, they will absorb plenty of pressure when taking on Liverpool. However, Palace are one of the best at counter-attacking and they will feel they can exploit Liverpool’s defence especially the full-backs. Their away form this season has been excellent collecting 20 points from their 15 away matches.

Palace know a fifth consecutive Premier League win will really enhance their chances of securing European football. They could also throw a huge curveball in the title race.

The Previous Meeting

Liverpool showed their title credentials with a late winner at Selhurst Park back in November. The Reds looked on course to drop points for just the second time this season until Roberto Firmino snatched a late winner. Sadio Mane initially gave Liverpool the lead before Wilfried Zaha thought he earned Palace an excellent point.

Prediction

This will be a very stern examination of Liverpool’s state of mind. The Reds have to put on an improved display and victory will put them on the brink of glory. However, it is easier said than done with Crystal Palace in rampant form.

It will be a tight game between two teams with excellent defences. It will be a case of who’s attack will be more clinical on the night. If Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are fit and available that will be a huge boost for Klopp and the team. Palace like to upset Liverpool during the big occasions and certainly Hodgson will drill that into his players.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-0 Crystal Palace

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Liverpool’s quest to secure the Premier League title sees them take on Crystal Palace at Anfield.
