Tottenham Hotspur’s<\/a> Jan Vertonghen <\/a>and Michel Vorm<\/a> have signed contract extensions<\/a> which will keep them at the club until the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Their previous deals were due to run out at the end of the month. However, the new deal will allow the pair to see out the rest of the 2019\/20 campaign.<\/p>\n

Spurs also confirmed that their players out on loan (Danny Rose,<\/a> Kyle Walker-Pieters, Jack Clarke, Luke Amos, Brandon Austin and Armando Shashoua) will remain out on loan until the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Good News for Spurs<\/h3>\n

Though Vertonghen and Vorm’s playing time has somewhat been restricted, it’s still positive that both players will be at the club until the end of the season. Spurs are currently in the battle for a place in Europe, and have a real chance of making it.<\/p>\n

They have eight games remaining, starting with West Ham United<\/a> tomorrow. They then have a nine-day break before playing out their final seven games in the space of 24 days.<\/p>\n

It’s a daunting and physically challenging July ahead of them, therefore it’s important the North London side has as much squad depth to get them through this congested period.<\/p>\n

With Vertonghen, looking likely to leave Spurs this Summer, it allows the club to give the Belgian the send-off he deserves.<\/p>\n

Vertonghen’s Time at the Lane<\/h3>\n

Jan Vertonghen signed for Tottenham from Ajax<\/a> in the Summer of 2012. He had a remarkable first campaign, playing 49 times and scoring six goals, resulting in him was named in the PFA Team of the Season.<\/p>\n

Vertonghen helped Spurs reach the League Cup final in 2015, but they were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea<\/a> at Wembley.<\/p>\n

He formed a defensive partnership with fellow countrymen, Toby Alderweireld<\/a>. They were part of a side which only conceded 26 goals in the 2016\/17 season, and finished second in the league.<\/p>\n

He was also part of the side which reached the Champions League final last season,<\/a> where they were beaten by Liverpool<\/a> in the final in Madrid.<\/p>\n

In total the Belgian has made 311 appearances for Spurs and has arguably been one of the best central defenders of the last decade.<\/p>\n
