Another pulsating round of Bundesliga<\/a> matches have come to an end, with plenty of talking points and exciting action. Dodi Lukebakio<\/a> secured an excellent win for Hertha Berlin<\/a>, denting\u00a0Bayer Leverkusen’s<\/a> hopes of securing Champions League football in the process.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund secured second place after beating RB Leipzig. VfL Wolfsburg and 1899 TSG Hoffenheim secured their places in the Europa League after crucial wins.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 1. FC K\u00f6ln, FC Augsburg and 1.FSV Mainz secured their Bundesliga places after collecting vital points this weekend. However, Werder Bremen were left on the brink after defeat to Mainz.<\/p>\n

Dodi Lukebakio Dents Bayer Leverkusen’s Champions League Hopes<\/h2>\n

Seven League Goals For Lukebakio<\/h3>\n

Hertha Berlin stopped their run of three consecutive defeats with an excellent win against Champions League-chasing Bayer Leverkusen. Goals from Matheus Cunha<\/a> and Lukebakio sealed an excellent win for the capital club.<\/p>\n

This could prove to be a costly defeat for Peter Bosz’s Leverkusen with their hopes of securing a top-four finish now out of their hands.<\/p>\n

The home side started excellently and deservedly opened the scoring courtesy of Cunha. The Brazilian scored his fifth goal for Hertha by firing a shot into the top corner after meeting Lukebakio’s pass.<\/p>\n

Leverkusen attempted to respond but saw Moussa Diaby<\/a>, Leon Bailey<\/a> and Kevin Volland<\/a> all wasted good opportunities. The visitors were soon further behind early in the second half thanks to the impressive Lukebakio. The one time Watford<\/a> striker scored his seventh goal of the season tapping past Lukas Hradecky<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The confidence was sapped away from the visitors and they struggled to respond. The result sees drop to fifth in the table. Champions League football is not out of their hands after Borussia Monchengladbach beat SC Paderborn. Meanwhile, Hertha Berlin climb a place to 10th.<\/p>\n

1. FSV Mainz’s Victory Secures Safety but Leaves Werder Bremen on the Brink<\/h3>\n

Mainz secured their Bundesliga safety in style by beating struggling Werder Bremen. Achim Beierlorzer’s team made it back to back wins as they sealed a much-needed home win. The result leaves Werder Bremen in all sorts of trouble heading into the final weekend.<\/p>\n

The home side were full of confidence after their excellent win at Borussia Dortmund in midweek. They made a strong start to the match scoring twice in the opening half an hour. Swedish attacker Robin Quaison<\/a> opened the scoring heading the ball past Jiri Pavlenka<\/a>. In the process the Swede took his Bundesliga tally to 13. The second arrived just five minutes later when Jean-Paul Boetius<\/a> curled in an excellent effort from outside the box.<\/p>\n

Bremen desperately needed to regroup and go again. Florian Kohfeldt’s side did manage to pull one back courtesy of Yuya Osaka<\/a>. The Japanese international met Davy Klaassen’s<\/a> pass and fired a shot into the top corner.<\/p>\n

However, despite Bremen’s best efforts to find an equaliser, the home side killed the contest in the 85th minute. It was an unlikely source in Edimilson Fernandes<\/a> who notched the deceive third. The former West Ham United<\/a> midfielder was put through on goal by Danny Latza<\/a> and he coolly slotted past Pavlenka. A first goal in Mainz colours for the Switzerland international.<\/p>\n

The result sees Mainz secured their safety and climb to 13th in the Bundesliga. Werder Bremen remain in deep trouble and find themselves two points adrift of Fortuna Dusseldorf in the relegation play-off place.<\/p>\n
