{"id":554419,"date":"2020-06-19T15:35:27","date_gmt":"2020-06-19T19:35:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/?p=554419"},"modified":"2021-12-29T19:34:29","modified_gmt":"2021-12-30T00:34:29","slug":"gaetano-berardi-commits-to-leeds-united-as-five-extend-contracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2020\/06\/19\/gaetano-berardi-commits-to-leeds-united-as-five-extend-contracts\/","title":{"rendered":"Gaetano Berardi Commits to Leeds United as Five Extend Contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/tag\/leeds-united\/\" target=\"_self\">Leeds United<\/a> have secured the services of five key players until the end of the 2019-20 season.<\/p>\n<h2>Gaetano Berardi Commits to Leeds United as Five Extend Contracts<\/h2>\n<p>The Whites have tied down a number of key players until the end of the season.<\/p>\n<p>With the Yorkshire outfit currently sitting top of the <a href=\"\/tag\/championship\/\" target=\"_self\">Championship<\/a> table, boss <a href=\"\/tag\/marcelo-bielsa\/\" target=\"_self\">Marcelo Bielsa<\/a> has moved to extend five Whites&#8217; stays at Elland Road until the end of the 2019-20 season.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetano Berardi has extended his permanent contract until the end of the current year.<\/p>\n<p>The full-back&#8217;s contract was set to run out later this month but Leeds have tied down an established player ahead of their promotion run-in.<\/p>\n<p>On-loan trio <a href=\"\/tag\/jack-harrison\/\" target=\"_self\">Jack Harrison<\/a>, Illan Meslier and Ben White have also extended their temporary contracts.<\/p>\n<p>Winger Helder Costa will also remain at Elland Road until the end of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Jean-Kevin Augustin, on-loan from <a href=\"\/tag\/rb-leipzig\/\" target=\"_self\">RB Leipzig<\/a>, is the only Leeds United loanee not to be included in those given extended contracts.<\/p>\n<p>The forward joined from German side Leipzig in January but has managed just 49 minutes for the Whites due to fitness concerns.<\/p>\n<p>He is not due to feature against <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/cardiff-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cardiff City<\/a> on Sunday, Leeds&#8217; first fixture for three months due to coronavirus, and the Whites are yet to make a decision on his future.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of Sunday&#8217;s trip to Wales, chief Bielsa said: &#8220;Jean-Kevin Augustin is not injured from April, but he is doing individual work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Leeds are in the middle of a promotion fight, hoping to end a 15-year spell away from the top-flight.<\/p>\n<p>Bielsa&#8217;s side are one point ahead of second-placed <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/west-brom\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">West Bromwich Albion<\/a>, and seven clear of third.<\/p>\n<p>After a three-month break, and with just nine matches to go, the Whites seem to be within touching distance of a return to the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>Main Photo<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"bpCejDnFQ7xh9saMRzGWAw\" class=\"gie-single\" style=\"color: #a7a7a7; text-decoration: none; font-weight: normal !important; border: none; display: inline-block;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimages.co.uk\/detail\/1181059680\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'bpCejDnFQ7xh9saMRzGWAw',sig:'ApNmfqDsJ3QmYky0or9cr1i04otV6Kspu8X86s0ub88=',w:'594px',h:'362px',items:'1181059680',caption: true ,tld:'co.uk',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Leeds United have secured the services of five key players until the end of the 2019-20 season.
