Arsenal<\/a> defender Pablo Mari<\/a> is set to miss the rest of the season through injury, according to David Ornstein<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pablo Mari to Miss Remainder of the Season<\/h2>\n

Tough Loan Spell<\/h3>\n

The 26-year-old has endured a tough spell since moving to The Emirates in January.<\/p>\n

Mari joined the Gunners initially on loan, with a view to making the move permanent. There had been rumours<\/a> of Mikel Arteta wanting to make his move permanent; however, that stance may have now changed.<\/p>\n

Since joining Arsenal, Mari has made just two appearances for the first-team, one of which was there defeat to Manchester City<\/a> in their first game following the Premier League restart.<\/p>\n

It was a terrible evening for Mari and his team-mates in the soaked Etihad Stadium. Not only did they whimper to a 3-0 defeat, but the 26-year-old was also joined in the injury room by Granit Xhaka<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Spaniard sustained significant ligament damage in his ankle. It is likely that he will require surgery.<\/p>\n

Xhaka, meanwhile, is likely to be back before the end of the season, despite suffering an ankle injury.<\/p>\n

How Will Arsenal Cope Without Pablo Mari?<\/h3>\n

The Spaniard’s injury is likely to be felt more severely due to David Luiz’s red card in the defeat to Manchester City.<\/p>\n

Luiz was handed a straight red for bringing down Riyad Mahrez<\/a> in the box, meaning he will be unavailable for their next three games.<\/p>\n

As a result, it means that Mikel Arteta will be down to the bare bones for their trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.<\/p>\n

According to David Ornstein, Rob Holding<\/a> could feature in the Gunners side at the Amex Stadium. The 24-year-old last featured in their 2-1 FA Cup win over Bournemouth<\/a> in January.<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, when the season ends and the transfer window opens, fixing the defence is likely to be the main priority for Mikel Arteta.<\/p>\n
