This would mean the Silkmen would be relegated to the National League.

REPORT: Macclesfield Town Accuse EFL of Attempting to Eliminate the Club From the Football League

Points Deductions

The League Two side have already been docked 11 points this season, but the Football League’s governing body are looking into yet more non-payments.

In December, the Silkmen had admitted two misconduct charges relating to an unfulfilled fixture against Plymouth Argyle. In addition to non-payment of players in February, they were deducted seven points as a result.

That followed a similar charge in December following the failure to fulfil a fixture against Crew Alexandra. That was a ten-point deduction which was later reduced to seven with three suspended.

EFL ‘Trying Their Best’ to Throw out of the League

Left-back David Fitzpatrick, the clubs longest-serving player, has argued that deducting 11 points before the points per game system has been calculated is “incorrect, unfair and does not reflect properly on any previous sanctions given to the club”.

Currently, Macclesfield have been deducted a total of 13.67 points instead of 11 points.

He added: “Any shortcomings this season have been as a result of the things that are out of the players’ control, and with the current level of publicity and charges against the club, the players are now facing a very uncertain future.

“Not only are players’ careers at stake, but non-playing staff jobs and livelihoods are also on the line.”

The 30-year-old, who has been with the club since 2015, went on to say: “As players this season, we have worked tirelessly through adversity. Changes of management, late payments and a number of separate points deductions.

“It is fair to say that we feel the EFL is trying its best to throw Macclesfield Town out of the league.”

League Two Table

If the Silkmen are handed another points deduction, they would finish behind Stevenage and would suffer relegation as a result.

The Boro are three points behind Macclesfield in the table. This season, just one team suffers relegation as a result of the explosion of Bury from League One at the start of the season.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

League Two side Macclesfield Town believe they have been treated unfairly by the EFL.
