A friendly match between Manchester United<\/a> and Stoke City<\/a> was cancelled earlier today due to a positive Coronavirus test among the\u00a0Championship<\/a> side\u2019s staff, as reported by John Percy of the Telegraph<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Football Starting to Return<\/h3>\n

After suspension earlier this year in an attempt to slow the spread of Covid-19, football is starting to return.<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s Bundesliga<\/a> restarted a few weeks ago, albeit behind closed doors.<\/p>\n

La Liga<\/a> of Spain\u00a0will also be back imminently<\/a>, with the first game scheduled for June 11th.<\/p>\n

And Italy, one of the countries worst hit by Covid-19, will see its top flight, the Serie A<\/a>, back on our screens<\/a> by June 20th.<\/p>\n

Although\u00a0Ligue 1<\/a>\u2019s 2019\/20 season will not return, as confirmed<\/a> in\u00a0late April, the Premier League<\/a> is set to resume<\/a> in mid-June, with the first matches kicking off on June 17th.<\/p>\n

The unprecedented halt to proceedings has not been easy on any football club, but they will try to reach some new level of normality with the resumption of matches, despite the empty stadiums.<\/p>\n

United Trying to Warm Up For New Season With Friendly<\/h3>\n

Arsenal<\/a> recently played<\/a> their first match in months, beating Charlton Athletic 6-0, in an attempt to warm back up for their trip to Manchester City<\/a> on June 17th.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils were trying to do similarly to Arsenal in setting up a friendly to return to match fitness.<\/p>\n

A game between two 11 man teams of United players took place at Carrington<\/a> last week, but the Manchester side would have hoped to continue their preparation with the match against Stoke.<\/p>\n

The Championship side were arriving when the game had to be called off. There was a Coronavirus scare for one of Stoke\u2019s staff, with it understood<\/a> that manager Michael O\u2019Neil had received a positive test result.<\/p>\n

Project restart will certainly see a new-look Premier League when it comes back later this month, but players and fans will welcome it nonetheless.<\/p>\n
