Racism a Global Problem Not Escaped by Football<\/h3>\n

Globally, racism is one of society\u2019s most pressing issues, and recent protests demonstrate this.<\/p>\n

When George Floyd was killed by two police officers in Minneapolis, there was outrage on social media. This then spread to the streets, as riots in protest of racism started.<\/p>\n

Ighalo also weighed in on the matter, calling for \u201cjustice to be done\u201d.<\/p>\n

With these protests ongoing, footballers have got involved in the matter, many of whom have experienced racism themselves.<\/p>\n

Italy\u2019s Serie A<\/a> has a huge problem<\/a> with the issue, and as of yet have not taken any successful steps to fix it.<\/p>\n

Other major instances of racism in football include<\/a> England\u2019s Euro qualification match against Bulgaria. The players were subject to large amounts of racist abuse from Bulgarian fans, which led to the match being stopped twice. UEFA then fined the Bulgarian FA, and the nation had to play their next two matches behind closed doors.<\/p>\n

Ighalo\u2019s Comments<\/h3>\n

Ighalo, who recently sealed an extension<\/a> of his loan move at Manchester United, spoke<\/a> to Sky Sports about his past experience with racism, and what he would do if racially abused again.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it [racial abuse] happens to me I would report it to the referee and see what they do, but if they don’t take action about it then I’m going to walk off because it should not be done to any player or anyone in the world.<\/p>\n

“In one game in China I got called all sorts of names and after the game, I didn’t shake his hand. I walked straight into the dressing room. I was angry. I reported it to the FA. I didn’t press forward with it, I just let it go because I’m just this kind of guy. I don’t like to drag issues out. But I don’t think it should be condoned in any country.<\/p>\n

“Nobody should condone racism. We are all human. Despite the colour of our skin, we are all the same, we live in the same world, the same life. ”<\/p>\n
