Oxford United<\/a> have extended the loan of Matty Taylor<\/a>\u00a0from Bristol City until the end of the season.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old, who is the U’s top scorer this season, was due to return to his parent’s club last month but the two sides struck an agreement as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

The Oxford-born striker has been impressive since his return to his boyhood club last summer<\/a>. The 30-year-old has netted 17 times from 34 appearances, with many goals clinching vital points in the league.<\/p>\n

The conclusion of the League One season still remains undecided, but the U’s will be in action unless the season is declared null and void, which now seems unlikely.<\/p>\n

Taylor could be a vital component with the U’s facing the possibility of the playoffs, and his goals could help steer the club to the second tier of English football for the first time since 1998\/99.<\/p>\n

Delight for Karl Robinson<\/h3>\n

Naturally, manager Karl Robinson was delighted with the decision. He told the Oxford Mail<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s great timing for us after the disappointment of Nathan Holland<\/a> going back.<\/p>\n

“Matty means a lot to us as a group because of his personality and the way he has bought into the philosophy and culture of\u00a0Oxford\u00a0United.<\/p>\n

“We want to thank Bristol City for helping make this happen and I\u2019m sure the fans will welcome the news that when we do play again we will have Matty available.\u201d<\/p>\n

Future at the Club?<\/h3>\n

Taylor’s contract with the Robins expires at the end of June and while the U’s are hopeful of retaining his services next season on a permanent basis, this is surely going to help relations between both clubs and the player himself.<\/p>\n

The player himself said earlier on the season that he wanted to wait until the summer before making a decision, but it looks all the more likely he could become a yellow on a permanent basis next season.<\/p>\n
