Three Charlton Athletic players are refusing to play<\/a> for the club when the Championship season resumes<\/a> later this month. Striker Lyle Taylor, defender Chris Solly and midfielder David Davis, on loan from Birmingham City, have all said they will not come back for the remaining matches.<\/p>\n

‘Just Another Hurdle’<\/h3>\n

The EFL confirmed yesterday that they had set a provisional date of June 20 for the second tier to return to action. However, the relegation-threatened Addicks will need to attempt to avoid the drop without their top goalscorer, who is also out of contract at the end of this campaign.<\/p>\n

Charlton are in the relegation zone currently, two points adrift of safety. However, with just three points separating Lee Bowyer’s side in 22nd and Stoke City<\/a> in 17th, there’s still a good chance that they can avoid the drop.<\/p>\n

Bowyer told talkSPORT<\/a>: \u00a0\u201cLyle is a big player for us, a bit like Deeney at Watford.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he plays, we win games and Lyle has said he is not going to play because of the risk of injury. Chris Solly said the same. And [David] Davis, who is on loan from Birmingham, said he does not want to come back and play. We are three players down but it\u2019s just another hurdle. We\u2019ve got another 22, 23 players that do want to play and that\u2019s the most important thing now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Talisman<\/h3>\n

After joining on a free transfer from AFC Wimbledon two years ago, Taylor has gone on to play a massive part in helping Charlton to where they are now.<\/p>\n

He scored 25 times last season as they pipped Sunderland<\/a> to promotion via the play-offs. He has also scored 11 times in 22 Championship matches this season to give the Addicks a fighting chance of staying up.<\/p>\n

On his star man, Bowyer added: \u201cIt\u2019s difficult because he\u2019s so big [a player] for us. He\u2019s going to get a life-changing move. If it wasn\u2019t for Lyle, we wouldn\u2019t even be in this division. He has chosen now not to come back and play until the end.\u201d<\/p>\n
