{"id":552609,"date":"2020-05-31T16:10:24","date_gmt":"2020-05-31T20:10:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/?p=552609"},"modified":"2020-05-31T16:10:24","modified_gmt":"2020-05-31T20:10:24","slug":"championship-to-return-on-june-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2020\/05\/31\/championship-to-return-on-june-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Championship to Return on June 20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An agreement has been reached for the Championship to return on June 20, it has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efl.com\/news\/2020\/may\/efl-statement-coronvirus-update-championship\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">confirmed.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Championship Clubs Agree to Return On June 20<\/h2>\n<h3>Deal to Subject to Government Guidance<\/h3>\n<p>The return of the Championship is still subject to guidance from the Government. Safety procedures would have to be met, although it is unclear what those procedures will be.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the safety procedures is likely to include testing, which is currently being undertaken by the 24 clubs in the second division. In the most recent <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/2020\/05\/30\/efl-announces-latest-coronavirus-testing-figures-with-17-individuals-testing-positive-across-leagues\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">round of testing<\/a> for COVID-19, 1058 players and staff were tested, 10 of which were returned as positive.<\/p>\n<h3>Return in Tandem With the Premier League?<\/h3>\n<p>England&#8217;s top-flight is also set to return on the same weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the Premier League will resume on June 17, with <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/aston-villa-club-news-analysis-fixtures\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aston Villa<\/a> hosting <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/sheffield-united-club-news-analysis-fixtures\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sheffield United.<\/a> However, the majority of games will take place on the weekend of June 20.<\/p>\n<p>Since the season has been halted, there has been a desire for the season to resume.<\/p>\n<p>Several approaches for the season to resume have been discussed with the 24 clubs throughout the seasons break. However, with action set to resume, the season is set to end with the Championship play-off final, currently set in principle for 30 July.<\/p>\n<p>Changes have also been made to the Championship regulations to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
