Morecambe<\/a> have confirmed that defender Christian Mbulu, 23, passed away yesterday.<\/p>\n

Details of his death remain unknown. The Shrimps player was found dead at his home in Cottam, near Preston, by police on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Statement on Mbulu<\/h3>\n

Morecambe released a statement confirming Mbulu’s passing last night. The club said:<\/a> “Everyone at Morecambe FC is deeply saddened to learn of Christian\u2019s death and would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends at this very sad time.<\/p>\n

“He was only 23 and the news of his sudden and untimely passing has been a shock to us all.<\/p>\n

“Christian came to the club in January and proved to be an extremely popular member of the squad.<\/p>\n

“His loss will be painfully felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.<\/p>\n

“The club would ask everyone to respect Christian\u2019s family\u2019s privacy at this sad time”<\/p>\n

Mbulu’s Career<\/h3>\n

Mbulu moved to Morecambe in January this year following a short spell at Crewe Alexandra.<\/a><\/p>\n

The London-born defender began his career at non-league side Brentwood, where he made over 60 appearances. He then moved to Millwall in 2015.<\/p>\n

Mbulu then joined Scottish side Motherwell<\/a> in 2018 before moving to Crewe in 2019.<\/p>\n

Clubs Pay Tribute to 23-Year-Old<\/h3>\n

In addition to Morecambe’s statement, Mbulu’s former clubs gave their condolences last night after hearing of the defender’s death.<\/p>\n

Milwall Academy Director, Scott Fitzgerald<\/a> said: “This is truly shocking and tragic news and our hearts go out to Christian\u2019s family and friends.<\/p>\n

\u201cChristian was incredibly popular with team-mates and staff alike during his time here and looked set for a very bright and successful future in the game”<\/p>\n

Motherwell also paid tribute. Chairman of the club, Jim McMahon said: “We are shocked to hear of the news of Christian\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

“He was such a friendly, pleasant and dedicated young man who we loved having around Fir Park.”<\/p>\n

Brentwood FC, where Mbulu began his career, also sent their condolences via Twitter. The club said in a tweet last night: “Christian Mbulu sadly passed away at the young age of 23.<\/p>\n

“Christian went on to play for Millwall, Motherwell, Crewe and Morecambe. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.”<\/p>\n
