After last week’s much-anticipated return to action, many newly-found viewers were eager to witness the Bundesliga<\/a> at its action-packed best yet once more. And, again, it did not fail to deliver. The latest matchweek saw a total of 32 goals scored with Hertha Berlin<\/a>, Bayer Leverkusen<\/a> and Bayern Munich<\/a> contributing 12 between them. Matchweek 27 also saw RB Leipzig<\/a> return to winning ways, Borussia Dortmund<\/a> keep up their momentum and Werder Bremen<\/a> pick up a crucial victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bundesliga Round-Up<\/span><\/h2>\n

Hertha Cruise Past Union in Berlin Derby\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

After last week’s resounding Borussia Dortmund victory in the Revierderby<\/a>, both Hertha and Union Berlin would have been hoping to replicate Dortmund’s derby day performance; the two sides squared off in a much anticipated Berlin derby. And, much like the derby on Matchweek 26, there was a clear winner. Hertha Berlin went onto hit four past a clearly weaker Union Berlin<\/a> side who haven’t been the same since the league’s return. Before the hiatus, Union looked defensively astute; they seemed able in attack and difficult to beat. Fast forward a couple of months, however, and they simply don’t look the same without their ever-loyal fans behind them.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was a second-half performance that lacked the usual fight, and Hertha took full advantage. Vedad Ibisevic<\/a> opened the scoring before Dodi Lukebakio<\/a> doubled the lead. A 2-0 advantage would have done the job for Hertha, but they wanted to make a statement and did so with some style. Goals from Matheus Cunha<\/a> and Dedryck Boyata<\/a> added the finishing touches to a resounding derby day victory for Hertha.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leverkusen Cruise Past Gladbach to Move into Fourth<\/span><\/h3>\n

Going into Matchweek 27 of the Bundesliga, the game between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach was perhaps the most anticipated one. Two points separated the sides with a place in the top four up for grabs and, after both sides returned to action with ease last time out, the game was set up to be an entertaining one with plenty of goals.<\/span><\/p>\n

The goals, much like the entertaining action, didn’t take long to come. Kai Havertz<\/a> opened the scoring within the opening ten minutes to give Leverkusen the lead. The goal almost signalled the beginning of the battle between the two stars of the show, Marcus Thuram<\/a> and Havertz. In the second half, Thuram responded with the equaliser only to be outdone by Havertz just six minutes later. The German converted from the penalty spot to restore an important lead for Leverkusen. The goal seemed to be the beginning of the end for Gladbach’s hope of three points. Sven Bender<\/a> added a third in the 81st minute to secure what could go down as Leverkusen’s most important victory of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n
