Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has given the all-important green light for Spain’s top-flight division La Liga<\/a> to resume play on June 8, according to the Evening Standard.<\/a><\/p>\n

La Liga Will Finish the Season<\/h3>\n

With the season put on hold since March 10 due to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic<\/a>, La Liga has now devised a plan to finish out the remainder of the season. They have strict safety precautions in place, following in the German Bundesliga’s<\/a> footsteps.<\/p>\n

La Liga president Javier Tebas has hailed the return of German football as an excellent example to follow, with June 8 suggested as the possible re-start date.<\/p>\n

However, not wanting to jump the gun too quickly, it appears more likely that June 12 or June 19 will be chosen as the dates for a return. Tebas will announce the decision in the coming days.<\/p>\n

Getting Back to Normal<\/h3>\n

Spain has been one of the hardest-hit countries in Europe in terms of Coronavirus cases & deaths.<\/p>\n

As cases have been declining each day, Spanish businesses have begun to gradually re-open, with football now following suit.<\/p>\n

La Liga teams have returned to training since the beginning of the month, with temperature checks and social distancing the new norm in the footballing world.<\/p>\n

Just like Germany<\/a>, the games will be played behind closed doors, with a certain number of people granted access into the ground.<\/p>\n

How Things Stand in La Liga<\/h3>\n

No football has been played in Spain’s top-flight division since this meeting between Eibar and Real Sociedad on March 10.<\/p>\n

With 11 rounds of games remaining, Tebas is keen for the competition to finish by the end of July, with games taking place every day of the week in order to appease both fans and broadcasters following this three-month lay-off.<\/p>\n

Tebas has previously stated<\/a>: “There will be football every day. That\u2019s what I hope. We shouldn\u2019t have any problems playing on Mondays across the eleven rounds of matches we have left to play.<\/p>\n

“I hope for some sense from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on this, because it\u2019s very important for us to be able to give both our national and international broadcasters, and fans across the world, football on as many days as possible to ensure as little harm as is possible.”<\/p>\n

Barcelona<\/a> are currently poised on 58 points at the top of the table. Bitter rivals Real Madrid<\/a> are two points behind in 2nd place. However, Zidane and his side remain confident in their ability to swoop their 34th La Liga title.<\/p>\n

A battle for the Champions League places will also take place between Real Sociedad<\/a>, Seville, Getafe<\/a> and surprise strugglers Atletico Madrid, who are hoping to turn their season around.<\/p>\n
