Watford<\/a> captain Troy Deeney<\/a> has spoken out on Project Restart and, with Premier League<\/a> clubs looking to go back to training as soon as next week, the 31-year-old says that he won’t be going in, the BBC reports.<\/a><\/p>\n

Troy Deeney Tells Watford he Won’t Return To Training Amid Concerns for his son’s Health<\/h2>\n

Deeney Not Ready to Return<\/h3>\n

Premier League clubs have voted to go back to training in small groups in a way to kickstart Project Restart.<\/p>\n

Watford players are expected back in training by Wednesday at the earliest, but the Watford captain has expressed his unwillingness to train in the current circumstances. Speaking on Eddie Hearn’s and Tony Bellew’s podcast Talk the Talk<\/a>, Deeney said: “We’re due back in this week. I’ve said I’m not going in. It’s nothing to do with financial gain.”<\/p>\n

Along with West Ham United<\/a> captain Mark Noble<\/a>, Deeney voiced his Project Restart concerns last week. The 31-year-old reiterated those doubts to Hearn and Bellew while adding the proposed June 12 restart is too soon.<\/p>\n

“Within the meeting, I asked very simple questions. For Black, Asian and mixed ethnicities they are four times more likely to get the illness and we’re twice as likely to have long-lasting illnesses,” Deeney added.<\/p>\n

Deeney also backed up his\u00a0claim from last week\u00a0that he would rather have money taken off him than put his family at risk.<\/p>\n

Project Restart<\/h3>\n

Premier League players are due to return to training this week as the division looks to return to action. Football has been suspended since mid-March as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.<\/p>\n

Last weekend saw the return of the Bundesliga – the first of Europe’s top five leagues to start. Naturally, games we’re behind closed doors and there were a number of protocols to protect players and staff.<\/p>\n

It will be the same in England, but there have already been a number of players that have spoken about their concerns ahead of the restart.<\/p>\n
