Moreover, financial difficulties could see many players unable to tie down new contracts. Salford City is one of those clubs that could be heavily impacted.

Furthermore, Transfermarkt lists 16 players that could leave the club for nothing. Today, we look at those players who may just be out of contract with the club before or around 30 June.

Salford City and Their Vast List of Out-of-Contract Players

Loanees at Salford

Six out of the total 16 players on the list are in fact on loan at the Peninsula Stadium. That includes youngsters Luke Burgess and George Tanner. Furthermore, there are also players such as Jack Baldwin, Cameron Burgess, Jake Jervis, and Ashley Hunter who are on loan.

Now that they are mentioned, let’s look at the club’s own out-of-contract stars.

Darron Gibson

32-year-old Darron Gibson graduated through the Manchester United academy. He arrived at Salford in February 2020 on a short term deal after a period of training with the club. Internationally Gibson represented the Republic of Ireland at the senior level, having played for Northern Ireland at U16 level. He has only made eight appearances to date.

Craig Conway

Experienced midfielder Craig Conway signed a short-term deal with the club in October 2019, and in January 2020 extended it to the end of the season. He has made 23 appearances in that time, with 20 in League Two.

Scott Wiseman

Full-back Scott Wiseman reunited with manager Graham Alexander by signing a one-year deal at The Peninsula Stadium ahead of the 2018/19 season, which he extended for the 2019/20 season. In his first year at Salford, Wiseman started every league game and both play-off games as we won promotion to the Football League for the first time. He has made over 80 appearances in total.

Michael O’Connor

Michael O’Connor joined Salford City at The Peninsula Stadium in January 2020, signing from Lincoln City on a deal until the end of the season. The 32-year-old is an organised, tough-tackling midfielder with plenty of league experience and is a valuable addition to the squad. However, if Salford want to prove his value, they’ll want to extend his deal. If not, then many clubs will be looking for his signature.

Salford Goalkeepers: Kyle Letheren and Chris Neal

Welsh goalkeeper Kyle Letheren left Plymouth Argyle to join Salford in July 2019. He has performed very well, keeping 11 clean sheets in just 22 games. That means that 50-per cent of the time he plays, he does not concede.

Salford’s other out-of-contract keeper, Chris Neal, signed on at The Peninsula Stadium in May 2018 after leaving League One outfit Fleetwood Town. He has had a considerable amount of game time at the club, playing 72 times in total and keeping 25 clean sheets in the process.

Ibou Touray

Speedy full-back Ibou Touray moved to The Peninsula Stadium ahead of the 2017/18 season following an impressive season at Nantwich Town. In his first season at the Peninsula Stadium, Touray cemented his place as first-choice left-back. He recorded nine assists, the most out of the squad, as Salford won the National League North.

In the summer he signed a one-year contract extension after a very impressive debut season, and in 2018/19 made it back-to-back promotions as they reached the Football League. He has made 133 appearances so far and would go down as a star in Salford’s recent history if he were to run down his contract.

Salford Youngsters: Tyrell Warren and Brandon Thomas-Asante

Both 21 years of age, Tyrell Warren and Brandon Thomas-Asante have established themselves as promising EFL youngsters during their time at Salford City.

Warren, the centre-back, has played only youth-team football. He has made 68 appearances across the Premier League Two, U18 Premier League, and the UEFA Youth League. Although, he has impressed in those competitions and is surely set to make his league debut if he stays with the club.

Furthermore, Salford winger Thomas-Asante joined in August 2019 from Ebbsfleet United and has gotten some first-team football under his belt. His first EFL goal came against Crewe Alexandra at the Peninsula Stadium on Boxing Day 2019, after an assist at Bradford City the week before, and followed by a brace away at Oldham Athletic. He has made almost 30 appearances and seems to be a very important player for the club.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Due to the coronavirus pandemic suspending all English league football for the foreseeable future, League Two clubs could be resigned to losing certain key players as free agents this summer.
