On Monday, May 4, Salomon Kalou<\/a> of Hertha BSC <\/span>live-streamed himself<\/span><\/a> entering the club’s training camp. The video shows Kalou and other players violating the prescribed distance and hygiene rules. The Deutsche Fu\u00dfball Liga (DFL) <\/span>responded<\/span><\/a> just a few hours later, tweeting that the incident is \u201cunacceptable,\u201d and adding that \u201cthere can be no tolerance\u201d for Kalou\u2019s actions. This video could potentially derail the DFL\u2019s hopes that <\/span>Germany\u2019s state premiers<\/span><\/a> will approve its plans to restart the Bundesliga behind closed doors on May 15. The Bundesliga would be the first<\/a> of Europe’s top leagues to return.<\/span><\/p>\n Hertha BSC <\/span>released a statement<\/span><\/a> later yesterday arguing that \u201cthis was the failure of a single player,\u201d not the club itself. The club has suspended the Ivorian from \u201ctraining and game operations with immediate effect.\u201d In an <\/span>interview with Sport1<\/span><\/a>, Kalou apologised for violating the DFL\u2019s rules and appearing to not be taking the Covid-19 pandemic seriously. \u201cI sincerely apologize: It was a big mistake! The people who know me know that I respect everyone and didn’t want to get anyone in trouble<\/em>,\u201d he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n In the <\/span>controversial video<\/span><\/a>, the former Chelsea and Ivory Coast star is seen shaking hands with Hertha\u2019s Athletic Trainer Henrik Kuchno and fellow striker Vedad Ibi\u0161evi\u0107<\/a>, all while not keeping the required 1.5 metre distance between himself and others. The video continues on in the changing room, showing Kalou and Ibi\u0161evi\u0107 complaining about reductions in their wages. \u201cWhy are they lying to us? To me they took 11%<\/em>,\u201d Ibi\u0161evi\u0107 said, while Kalou waved his check in front of the camera.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Kalou then leaves the changing room to see Physio David de Mel giving Hertha defender Jordan Torunarigha<\/a> a coronavirus test. De Mel is heard urging Kalou to delete the video. \u201cSala please, delete the video<\/em>,\u201d De Mel said, and with good reason. DFL rules state that no more than two people can be in the testing room at once.The Ivorian violated distance regulations within the changing and testing room, and the hygiene regulations by shaking hands with two people.<\/span><\/p>\n The controversial video comes at an inopportune time for the DFL.
