Just over 18 months later Loris Karius terminates his loan due to unpaid wages. The German goalkeeper announced today on his Instagram that he had “tried everything to solve this situation without any problems.” He even goes on to say the club rejected his proposal of a pay cut. Karius grew impatient and felt he was left with no choice but to terminate his contract. The former Liverpool number one goes on to thank the fans for their “amazing support.”

Loris Karius Terminates Besiktas Loan

What Next for Karius and Liverpool?

Loris Karius will be available to Liverpool once football restarts. But, is there a way back for him into the squad? According to James Pearce from The Athletic, Liverpool have known for months that they would need to find a club for Karius in the summer.

Liverpool’s current number two, Adrian, has another year on his contract and Klopp seems happy with him. However, Karius will be available to Klopp this pre-season. Does Klopp give him a chance to prove himself? Well before that infamous night in Kyiv, Karius was playing very well and there was no talk of Liverpool looking for a number one.

Karius was Klopp’s Champions League ‘keeper but would go onto take the number one spot from early 2018. Despite his disastrous performance in the Final he still won the Golden Glove; this highlights his exploits in the Champions League as a whole. Considering how Adrian was playing in the first half of the season not one Liverpool fan would’ve entertained the idea of giving Karius another chance.

But, Adrian has made some high profile errors since the turn of the year notably against Atletico Madrid. This has started the conversation of moving the Spanish shot-stopper on and giving Karius and chance.

Karius, 26, could prove to be a good second keeper and a good back up to Alisson. His confidence can be restored through appearances in cup games and in two to three years Liverpool could find themselves in a position like Manchester United with two top-quality keepers. Or Karius could make a big mistake in pre-season and be sold.

Nevertheless, Loris Karius terminates his loan; he will be available to Klopp and with Adrian likely to not get an extension after 2021, it begs the question, does Klopp give his countryman one last shot?

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

On the 25th of August 2018, Loris Karius went out on loan to Besiktas for two years.
