Jurgen Klopp\u2019s Liverpool<\/a> are on the verge of winning the Premier League for the first time. It\u2019s been accepted by the majority that no matter what, Liverpool will be league champions. Despite the season being paused, the transfer rumour mill is still in full flow. Liverpool, in order to stay at the top, will need to reinforce the squad. This is where German striker Timo Werner comes in.<\/p>\n

The RB Leipzig man has 27 goals and 12 assists in 36 games this season in all competitions and is being heavily linked to Liverpool. Klopp is said to be very interested in the 24-year-old and is keen on bringing Timo Werner to Liverpool. The rumoured release clause of \u00a352 million is within the Reds’ price range and Sky Sports<\/a> are reporting that Werner is ready to join the club if the price is met. But, they also report that Klopp’s side do not intend to make a move before his release clause expires on June 15. The club might think they could get him for a lower price. But the real question is, will Liverpool sign Timo Werner?<\/p>\n

There have been a couple of big boosts for fans as Christian Falk from BILD reported on that Werner would rather move to a foreign league<\/a> than join German champions Bayern Munich<\/a>. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano<\/a> also shares Falk\u2019s take on the situation. With no crowds potentially until the new year<\/a>, clubs will need to try and limit the damage. The Reds would do this by saving money on transfer fees and starting the following season with the same squad. By looking at these reports, it\u2019s fair to say that we could be in for another transfer saga that seems to drag on until Liverpool inevitably get it done. There\u2019s little doubt that Werner wants the move but, as ever, Liverpool\u2019s transfer policy remains unknown.<\/p>\n

Where Does Timo Werner Fit In?<\/h3>\n

With Liverpool\u2019s front three, it’s difficult to find players better than what they currently have – however, they need back up. They have, of course, cult hero Divock Origi and a couple of others who can fill a gap, but there\u2019s a clear drop in quality when one of the front three is replaced. Timo Werner not only provides good back up to the front three, allowing them to be rested, but is also versatile and can play in all three positions. \u00a0If Werner joins, there\u2019s also the possibility of the return of a Liverpool \u2018Fab Four\u2019; the side would deploy a 4-2-3-1 with Roberto Firmino operating in an attacking midfield role and Werner through the middle.<\/p>\n

Werner\u2019s stats more than warrant the price tag that Liverpool can afford. He\u2019s also a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho<\/a>. With the economic implications of the current pandemic, Liverpool might be forced to reduce spending. The Reds could retrieve the money through sales with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri<\/a> and Harry Wilson<\/a> rumoured to be leaving in the summer. If Liverpool want to stay as the dominant force in England, they\u2019ll have to keep building and improving the squad and make sure they have ready-made replacements for the front three as they approach their thirties. If Liverpool can land the German international there will be little stopping the Reds from winning the big trophies next season.<\/p>\n
