Chelsea<\/a> will continue paying their casual workers full wages despite the coronavirus<\/a> pandemic causing football to be suspended.<\/p>\n

Blues Not to Take Advantage of Job Retention Scheme<\/h3>\n

The Premier League<\/a> side have said they will not utilise the Government’s new scheme.<\/p>\n

Companies can apply for 80% of wages to be covered by the government due to lost income.<\/p>\n

Until June 30, clubs can put workers on furlough in order to avoid any financial difficulties.<\/p>\n

But the London club have said they will not use this initiative, instead paying full wages as though the club “had been operating as usual.”<\/p>\n

In a statement that addressed concerns around ticketing, employees, the community and the men’s team, the Blues said<\/a>: “We are continuing our current level of financial and other support to our professional women players and also to our women\u2019s academy programmes.<\/p>\n

“Our women\u2019s team and staff have been very supportive of our charitable activities during this crisis which has been appreciated by both the club and the respective charities.”<\/p>\n

With no football for the foreseeable future, Chelsea have been providing support to their local community.<\/p>\n

Last week they announced they would provide free meals to the NHS and charities that support the elderly and vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n

They are now providing up to 81,000 meals to people who can not obtain food on a regular basis.<\/p>\n

The club’s medical team have also volunteered to assist the NHS in critical roles.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Chelsea Foundation are working to support others whose lives have been disrupted.<\/p>\n

The Foundation’s education team are producing daily workbooks and virtual classroom sessions for children.<\/p>\n

Staff have also helped local foodbanks with deliveries; more than 10,000 participants took part in a virtual soccer school during the Easter holiday.<\/p>\n
