Championship side Reading<\/a> are at risk of losing a number of players this summer with their contract due to expire. Mark Bowen’s side are in mid-table but aren’t yet mathematically safe from the drop as the Royals look to remain in the second division of English football. However, they could also yet reach the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Reading Players Out of Contract<\/h2>\n

Five Key Players Could Leave<\/h3>\n

Bowen could lose five key players this summer. 26-year-old left-back Jordan Obita<\/a>, who can also play on the wing, has scored twice and provided two assists from 14 league games. The Oxford-born player has been with the Royals his entire career, but missed almost two years with a knee injury, and has spent time on the sidelines this season, too.<\/p>\n

Another left-back is Tyler Blackett<\/a>. The 26-year-old joined from Manchester United<\/a> in 2016 and has already made over 100 appearances for the Royals. The defender has managed just 14 Championship appearances this season, with injuries also playing a part.<\/p>\n

Chris Gunter<\/a> is an experienced head that Bowen may not be able to afford to lose. The 30-year-old right-back joined the club in 2012 from Nottingham Forest<\/a> and has gone on to make over 300 appearances for the Royals. Gunter has also been capped by Wales on 96 occasions.<\/p>\n

Like Gunter, Garath McCleary<\/a> joined the Royals from Nottingham Forest in 2012. The 32-year-old right-winger has surpassed 250 appearances for the Championship side, but the former Jamaica international has managed just 16 this season.<\/p>\n

Another midfielder the wrong side of 30 is Charlie Adam.<\/a> The former Stoke City<\/a> and Liverpool<\/a> man is now 34-years-old, and but has made 19 Championship appearances. That said, the former Scotland international is another that is likely to leave in the summer.<\/p>\n

Youth<\/h3>\n

21-year-old defensive midfielder Ryan East<\/a> and Danny Loader,<\/a> a 19-year-old striker, are both also out of contract. East has made just once senior appearance during his time at the club, making 11 outings in the Premier League 2 this season, while Loader has made 35 appearances for the Royals, with seven coming this campaign.<\/p>\n
