Tottenham<\/a> midfielder Eric Dier<\/a> has been charged by the FA following an incident that occurred in their FA Cup tie against Norwich City<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n

The Incident<\/h3>\n

The incident overshadowed FA Cup Fifth Round tie, which Norwich won on penalties at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.<\/p>\n

Following the final whistle, the 26-year-old was filmed climbing into the stand. It is alleged that he was going to protect his brother – who was in the stand and at the game – after he was involved in an altercation.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the game, Tottenham manager, Jose Mourinho, said to the BBC<\/a>: “I think Eric did what we professionals cannot do but probably every one of us would do.”<\/p>\n

“I repeat we professionals cannot do it, but I repeat I am with the player and I understand the player. The fans were with the team until the last penalty kick that we missed.<\/p>\n

“This person insulted Eric, the family was there, the younger brother was not happy with the situation.”<\/p>\n

Following the charge, the England international now has until 8 May to respond.<\/p>\n

The Game<\/h3>\n

As previously aforementioned, the incident only added to Spurs’ troubles after being knocked out on penalties<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jose Mourinho’s side did take the lead through Jan Vertonghen,<\/a> whose header beat Tim Krul<\/a> to find the back of the net.<\/p>\n

However, they could not add more goals in what was a lacklustre performance.<\/p>\n

Their opponents matched them in their efforts, and eventually scored the equaliser in the 78th minute. Second-choice striker Josip Drmic<\/a> capitalised on a mistake by Michel Vorm<\/a> and levelled the score for the visitors.<\/p>\n

The two sides could not be separated through extra-time, but the Canaries were eventually victorious on penalties.<\/p>\n

Daniel Farke’s side will now face Manchester United<\/a> at Carrow Road in the next round of the FA Cup.<\/p>\n
