Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> chairman, Daniel Levy, contacted former boss Mauricio Pochettino<\/a> over a pay cut. The club still pays the former manager’s wages, according to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail.<\/a><\/p>\n

Wage Reduction<\/h3>\n

Daniel Levy sacked Mauricio Pochettino in November after five-and-a-half years at Spurs. The chairman replaced the Argentine with Jose Mourinho.<\/p>\n

As part of the dismissal, Levy agreed to pay Pochettino’s \u00a38.5 million a year wages until he found a new job.<\/p>\n

Pochettino remains unemployed, despite being linked with top jobs around Europe. Manchester United<\/a> and Real Madrid<\/a> showed interest in Pochettino earlier this season.<\/p>\n

However, due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Levy contacted Pochettino to negotiate a new payment deal.<\/p>\n

More Staff Facing Wage Reductions<\/h3>\n

Reports suggest<\/a> that a number of Pochettino’s former backroom staff at Spurs also face wage reductions. Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino and Antoni Jimenez will be contacted by the club to negotiate lesser payments.<\/p>\n

Talks also continue between the club, current boss Mourinho and the playing staff about a wage reduction due to the suspension of the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Levy originally took the decision to furlough 550 non-playing staff in March. But the club reversed the decision<\/a> this week following widespread criticism.<\/p>\n

Growing Concern for Levy and Spurs<\/h3>\n

These further cuts from Levy highlight serious and growing financial implications for Spurs during the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n

It adds to the long and expanding list of cuts imposed by the club since the football season suspended in March.<\/p>\n

The club owes huge debts over the building of the new stadium. Levy also continues to make payments on recent transfer deals.<\/p>\n

Premier League clubs continue to discuss how and when the league will resume, which continue this week.<\/p>\n

The continuation of football will be hugely important for Spurs as Levy will look to find some stability in a turbulent time for the club.<\/p>\n
