As football remains on an indefinite halt, Last Word On Football have taken a look at the four first-team players Brentford could lose as free transfers this summer.<\/p>\n
Whether the Bees earn a long-awaited promotion to the Premier League <\/a>could play a big factor in which of the out contract players remain at the club.<\/p>\n Thomas Frank’s side currently sit fourth in the Championship, five points ahead of Bristol City, who are just outside of the play-off spots.<\/p>\n Brentford won their final game before the season was brought to a halt, a 5-0 demolition of Sheffield Wednesday.<\/p>\n The South African has been a consistent performer for the Bees since joining in 2017.<\/p>\n A box-to-box midfielder who looks to play the ball forward, Mokotjo has made 100 appearances during his time at Griffin Park, scoring six times.<\/p>\n While he has been a consistent member of the first-team, his future at the club may depend on whether Thomas Frank’s side earn promotion to the top-flight. If they do, then they may look to add more quality in the heart of midfield.<\/p>\n Furthermore, his current injury may also play a pivotal factor. The 29-year-old is currently sidelined is currently sidelined with a knee ligament injury.<\/p>\n The Greek striker has failed to make an impact at Griffin Park since joining on a one-year deal last summer.<\/p>\n Karelis made just four appearances at the beginning of the campaign before suffering a long-term injury.<\/p>\n It is unlikely that he will be rewarded with a new contract, despite not showing his true potential. Ollie Watkins<\/a> is the undisputed first-choice under Frank, and it would prove difficult for Karelis to replace him.<\/p>\n The Danish youngster continues to bide his time at Griffin Park in the hope for regular first-tea opportunities.<\/p>\n Currently on loan at National League side Boreham Wood, Shaibu signed<\/a> a three-year deal in 2017. He has spent the last season-and-a-half on loan with the non-league side, scoring 18 times in 79 appearances.<\/p>\n Brentford may look to keep the 22-year-old for another season in order for him to continue his development in the EFL. However, if he does not impress, then they will look to offload him.<\/p>\n Reece Cole<\/a> is in a similar situation to his team-mate Shaibu. His status at the club depends on how they see the future for him, and whether they believe he can make an impact on the first-team.<\/p>\n Also aged 22, Cole has made just one appearance for the senior side at Griffin Park.
