The EFL and PFA have proposed a player wage deferral of up to 25 per cent for April.<\/p>\n
The plan aims to help league clubs deal with the financial implications of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n
League One and Two<\/a> clubs can defer up a quarter of a player’s wages with Championship<\/a> clubs negotiating individually.<\/p>\n The proposal would ensure any player earning less than \u00a32,500 per month would still be paid in full.<\/p>\n Any player with their wage deferred will not earn less than \u00a32,500 per month.<\/p>\n In a joint statement<\/a>, the English Football League and Professional Footballers’ Association stated that this decision was “a recommendation and not a directive.<\/p>\n “There are clubs who have stated no requirement to take immediate action at this time.<\/p>\n Clubs may also be able to agree on further conditions with players at a local level.<\/p>\n The EFL<\/a> and PFA have also decided to “form a working group of six Club captains\/PFA delegates from League One and Two, supported by a representative nominated by the PFA, to engage in dialogue in respect of players\u2019 wages.<\/p>\n “While the working group will not be a formal negotiating body, it will help to ensure that players are fully informed as they continue to hold discussions with individual Clubs.”<\/p>\n It will help create a clearer dialogue for player concerns to be heard and financial challenges explained.<\/p>\n The working group will ” focus not just on the short term (May and June) but will address the medium-term position from the start of July onwards and into next season.”<\/p>\n Championship clubs have agreed to negotiate wage deferrals with players on a local level.<\/p>\n The statement confirmed some Championship Clubs “have concluded agreements with players and others will be holding discussions this week.”<\/p>\n EFL clubs won’t resume any activity, including training, until at least 16 May<\/a>.<\/p>\n Main Photo<\/p>\n25% Wage Deferral<\/h2>\n
