Newcastle United<\/a> want to sign Portuguese midfielder Rafa Silva<\/a> from Benfica<\/a> this summer, Alan Nixon from The Sun<\/a> has reported.<\/p>\n

However, a number of issues could prevent the Toon’s attempt to move for the 26-year-old midfielder.<\/p>\n

Newcastle United Interested in Rafa Silva<\/a><\/h2>\n

Silva’s Time to Move On<\/h3>\n

Silva is supposedly unsettled at Benfica<\/a> and favours a move to the Premier League this summer.<\/p>\n

The Portuguese midfielder has been a bit-part player this season. This was partly due to missing 14 matches due to an abductor injury.<\/p>\n

But, the creative midfielder scored nine goals and made six assists in all competitions for the current Primeira Liga champions.<\/p>\n

Will Newcastle Be Able to Afford Rafa Silva?<\/h3>\n

Newcastle only want to pay \u00a315 million for Silva, while Benfica value the 26-year-old at \u00a325 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Magpies reportedly want to scout Silva further<\/a> to see if he is capable of making the transition to the Premier League before making any transfer decisions.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the financial impact of Coronavirus on the club could also be a factor in whether Newcastle move for the Portuguese playmaker.<\/p>\n

Newcastle continue to pay off debts from previous transfers<\/a> which may delay any possible transfer activity this summer.<\/p>\n

A Talented Newcastle Midfield Next Season<\/h3>\n

Silva’s quality is clear and his record for Benfica will be appealing to Steve Bruce<\/a> and Newcastle.<\/p>\n

He has made 125 appearances for Benfica and scored 35 goals since joining from Braga<\/a> in 2016.<\/p>\n

His creativity and attacking ability would add essential quality in the final third for Newcastle. Steve Bruce<\/a>‘s side scored the lowest amount of goals in the Premier League this season (25).<\/p>\n

However, signing Silva would be a big intention from the Magpies and he would be a quality addition to a talented midfield next season.<\/p>\n

Miguel Almiron<\/a> was in good form before the season ended while Isaac Hayden<\/a> proves to be a reliable defensive midfielder.<\/p>\n

Youngsters Matthew Longstaff<\/a> and Sean Longstaff<\/a> also started to show their potential with regular appearances in the first team.<\/p>\n
