With his 12 year anniversary at Bayern Munich<\/a> on the horizon, Thomas Muller<\/a> has admitted that he did indeed want permission to leave the club. He reportedly asked for permission to leave the German giants<\/a> in the winter after enduring a legendary spell at the club. Thomas Muller confirmed via SportBild and Christian Falk<\/a> that the situation was tense in autumn and he did not think of extending his contract in spring. Nevertheless, two days ago he agreed on a new contract<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Falk goes on to relay Muller’s further comments: “If we would remained successful in autumn and my role would not have changed, FC Bayern could have lived with the idea of \u200b\u200bgiving me away.”<\/span><\/p>\n

REPORT: Thomas Muller Admits He Wanted Permission to Leave Bayern Munich<\/h2>\n

The decision had come as a surprise to many who expected the German to retire in Munich. This is especially after another successful individual season at the club. Muller, however, had different plans in mind with perhaps one more spell at another top club in Europe on the cards. And the German is still capable of playing on the highest of stages, despite approaching 31 this year. The former World Cup winner has assisted 16 goals this season in what will be his last in Munich; this statistic sums up his incredible technical ability.<\/p>\n

The eventual departure of Muller will signal an end of an era at Bayern Munich and the chance for fresh faces to impress. The departure could even signal the arriving of long term transfer target, Leroy Sane;<\/a> he is one of only a handful of players capable of replacing the ability of Muller at Bayern. Muller would have felt as though the time is right to move on with the club going through somewhat of a transitional period, welcoming new talents such as Alphonso Davies<\/a> to replace those ready to move on after a golden spell at the club.<\/p>\n

The club will be hoping to give Muller the send-off he deserves once it is safe to so. They can potentially give the German one more Bundesliga<\/a> title to lift a high before the emotional yet inevitable farewell.<\/p>\n
