Celtic<\/a> want to compete for the signing of 16-year-old prospect Calum Kavanagh, according to Irish news outlet The Herald,<\/p>\n

The forward is currently contracted to Middlesbrough.<\/a> But impressive performances for the U18 squad this season led a number of clubs to keep tabs on the highly-rated teenager.<\/p>\n

Celtic, Arsenal and Chelsea Chasing Calum Kavanagh<\/h2>\n

High-Profile interest<\/h3>\n

Both Arsenal<\/a> and Chelsea<\/a> remain interested<\/a> in securing his signature. The two London clubs sent scouts to monitor Kavanagh’s progress earlier this season.<\/p>\n

Premier League rivals Leicester City<\/a> and Newcastle United<\/a> seem keen<\/a> on signing the youngster too. While Scottish champions Celtic are the most recent high-profile club to enter the race for the 16-year-old.<\/p>\n

Will Middlesbrough Be Able to Keep the Youngster?<\/h3>\n

Despite the interest from the Premier League and Scotland, Middlesbrough want to sign Kavanagh on a long-term deal.<\/p>\n

He was offered a three-year contract to stay at the club in March<\/a>. Talks continue between the striker and his representatives<\/p>\n

Manager Jonathan Woodgate<\/a> is willing to provide<\/a> the talented youngster with more first-team opportunities.<\/p>\n

However, it seems the young prospect is eager to sign a shorter-term deal with the Championship club. He is keeping his options open for a high-profile move away from Teesside.<\/p>\n

Kavanagh’s excellent form<\/h3>\n

The Republic of Ireland youth striker scored six goals and provided an assist for Middlesbrough U18s in the Northern Division this season.<\/p>\n

The 16-year-old’s ability earned him a call-up to the Republic of Ireland U15s squad in 2018. A year later, he was promoted to the U17s and scored in his first game for the side against Andorra.<\/p>\n

He is the son of former Republic of Ireland international Graham Kavanagh<\/a> who represented the country on 16 occasions.<\/p>\n

There will be no shortage of interest in the 16-year-old and his form this season proves he is one of the best prospects available.<\/p>\n
