{"id":548771,"date":"2020-04-07T11:47:03","date_gmt":"2020-04-07T15:47:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/?p=548771"},"modified":"2020-04-07T11:47:03","modified_gmt":"2020-04-07T15:47:03","slug":"report-watford-confirm-that-they-will-not-furlough-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2020\/04\/07\/report-watford-confirm-that-they-will-not-furlough-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"REPORT: Watford Confirm That They Will Not Furlough Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to Ryan Gray of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.watfordobserver.co.uk\/sport\/18364228.coronavirus-watford-will-not-furlough-staff-positive-discussions-surrounding-players-wages-continue\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Watford Observer<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/watford\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Watford<\/a> will not use the furlough scheme to pay their non-playing staff.<\/p>\n<h2>Watford Say That They Will Not Furlough Staff<\/h2>\n<h3>Controversial Use<\/h3>\n<p>The use of the scheme &#8211; which sees the government pay 80% of an employee&#8217;s wages up to \u00a32,500 &#8211; has been used controversially by Premier League sides.<\/p>\n<p>Both <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/tottenham\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tottenham<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/newcastle-united\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Newcastle United<\/a> have placed their <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/2020\/03\/30\/report-coronavirus-causes-non-playing-staff-at-newcastle-united-to-be-placed-on-temporary-leave\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">non-playing staff<\/a> on the scheme in order to cut costs. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/liverpool\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Liverpool<\/a> also announced that they would be using the scheme, however, that decision has since been <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/2020\/04\/06\/liverpool-reverse-decision-to-furlough-non-playing-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reversed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Lower down the football pyramid, clubs have placed all staff, including players on the scheme. League Two sides <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/2020\/04\/07\/seven-players-cambridge-united-could-lose-as-free-transfers-this-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cambridge United<\/a>, Plymouth Argyle,<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/2020\/04\/02\/report-plymouth-argyle-and-exeter-city-makes-changes-to-club-structure-amid-coronavirus-outbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Exeter City<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/2020\/04\/03\/leyton-orient-become-latest-clubs-to-furlough-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leyton Orient<\/a> have all used the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the use of the scheme by high-profile clubs has proved controversial.
