Having impressed in his first season on UK soil, greatly helping the Hornets to promotion into the top flight, they signed him on a permanent basis.

He continued his high level into his first Premier League season, with 16 goals in all, earning himself the position of sixth top scorer in the league. Despite his successes in 2015/16, however, Ighalo failed to shine in the following campaign.

He managed just one goal in 18 appearances during the first half of the 2016/17 season, before Watford sold him to Chinese club Changchun Yatai, in which country it looked as if he would see out his career.

Ighalo moved to Shanghai Shenhua two years later and spent a further year there before United came calling.

Transfer to United

Manchester United were desperate for a striker in the January transfer window.

Goalscorer Marcus Rashford had injured himself in mid-January and looked to be out for almost the rest of the season. Their search for a centre-forward included the likes of Edinson Cavani and former player Carlos Tevez, but in the end, Ighalo was their choice.

While it seemed laughable at the time, Ighalo has established some exceptional form, with a goal every 80 minutes. The Red Devils are now interested in making his temporary deal permanent, and the 30-year-old just gave a hint that he would be willing to make that happen.

Odion Ighalo Hints at Manchester United Transfer

Ighalo’s current club in Shanghai recently offered him a bumper new deal, in excess of £400,000 per week, in a bid to persuade him to stay there. He is an avid United fan, but they would not be willing to pay that kind of money, so the Nigerian has to choose between money or loyalty.

It looks as if he is going with the latter.

On his Twitter account, Ighalo recently stated that “All isn’t about money”. Although it was not in the context of a United transfer, he took a pay cut to get there and seems to be willing to take another to stay there longer.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Odion Ighalo has recently hinted at a Manchester United transfer on his Twitter account.
