The U&#8217;s aren&#8217;t the first English side to do so, and they certainly won&#8217;t be the last, but after four weeks without any footballing action, the club have taken action.<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Oxford United Place Non-Football Staff on Furlough Leave<\/h2>\n<h3>Tough Times for All<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Last month, U&#8217;s chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/oxford.vitalfootball.co.uk\/us-chairman-gives-update\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sumrith &#8216;Tiger&#8217; Thanakarnjanasuth<\/a> admitted the club wouldn&#8217;t struggle financially and would continue to be backed by the board, but added they would need to adapt to get through this tough period.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">All but key staff will be placed on furlough &#8211; the government scheme which covers 80 per cent of wages &#8211; as addressed in a statement by the club.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">Oxford Club Statement:<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oufc.co.uk\/news\/2020\/april\/oxford-united-furlough\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The statement read<\/a>: &#8220;The club will come back in good shape but with no matches, this is a particularly tough time for all football clubs.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Staff were asked their opinion and have unanimously agreed that the club should take this step.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;Key staff will continue to work to ensure that the club is ready when football resumes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">Additional Financial Information<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The U&#8217;s have also taken up the \u00a3180,000 loan made available by the EFL, while a proportion of payment of rent for the Kassam Stadium has been delayed.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The club are finalising plans to keep all backroom and playing staff on the payroll, while talks remain ongoing with the EFL and PFA about a possible collective agreement on wage deferral.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\">On the Pitch<\/h3>\n<p>On the field, the U&#8217;s have had a solid season.
