The Coronavirus pandemic has caused non-playing staff at Newcastle United<\/a> to be placed on temporary leave, according to the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Non-Playing Staff at Newcastle United Placed on Temporary Leave<\/h2>\n

Paid in Full Until the End of April<\/h3>\n

Those affected by the decision made by Newcastle United will be paid in full until the end of next month.<\/p>\n

The decision affects several departments within the club, including those who work within the academy structure.<\/p>\n

While Newcastle are the first Premier League to take such measures, several clubs across have either reduced the wages of playing staff or seen jobs cut.<\/p>\n

Leeds United<\/a> were one of the first clubs in England to see players defer their wages\u00a0 to help the club’s finances.<\/p>\n

In Scotland, SPL side Hearts<\/a> have asked their players to take a 50% cut to save the club \u00a31 million, which has been lost as a result of the suspension of all football.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, in Europe, several clubs have also cut playing staff wages to save money. Both Barcelona and Juventus<\/a> players have agreed pay cuts. The former have agreed a 70% cut<\/a>, while Juventus playing staff have waived their wages for a four months, according to The Guardian.<\/a><\/p>\n

When Will Football Return?<\/h3>\n

Football in England is currently until April 30; however, it appears that the date is set as a precedent, and it is extremely unlikely for football to return by then.<\/p>\n

Discussions continue to take place as to how – and when – it can return. Much of it is dependent on how Covid-19 affects England.<\/p>\n

According to Miguel Delaney of the Independent<\/a>, there are discussions over holding the remaining fixtures in “isolated camps” over two months in the summer.<\/p>\n

Instead of playing behind-closed-doors in stadiums, these games would take place on training pitches and be broadcast.<\/p>\n

This plan would then see the 2020\/2021 season delayed only slightly.<\/p>\n
