The Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> Stadium is now acting as a hub to distribute food during the COVID-19 crisis. According to their official website<\/a>, the underground parking in the stadium will be used for this purpose.<\/p>\n

REPORT: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Used as Food Distribution Hub<\/h2>\n

The club made the following statement:<\/p>\n

“As a starting point, the stadium\u2019s basement car park is being used as a storage base by the London Food Alliance \u2013 a new scheme set up to ensure food supplies for the most vulnerable people within the capital during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

It has been set up by the capital\u2019s three largest food surplus distributors \u2014 The Felix Project, FareShare and City Harvest \u2014 to pick up nutritious surplus food from suppliers and deliver it in bulk to community hubs in each London borough.<\/p>\n

Each Borough Council is creating hubs to receive the surplus food, divide it into food parcels and deliver them to the doorsteps of vulnerable Londoners \u2013 our stadium will be one of two hubs used by Haringey, alongside Alexandra Palace.”<\/p>\n

Thus, the club are helping the needy and vulnerable in the local community; this is chiefly in the provision of food supplies.<\/p>\n

The Club’s Contribution So Far<\/h3>\n

Mourinho Volunteers<\/h4>\n

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho volunteered, working with Age UK to help those isolated elderly members of the local community.<\/p>\n

He said<\/a>: \u201cI came to give some support to Age UK, Enfield and Love Your Doorstep, Enfield, to help people in our Club\u2019s local community. It is a difficult time for everyone right now, particularly among the elderly, so I want to offer my assistance in any way I can.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny help that anybody can offer can make a huge difference to people\u2019s lives right now \u2013 we should all be thinking about what we can do to help each other because there are many vulnerable people that could face struggles during the period we have ahead of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Social Media Campaigns<\/h4>\n

The club have developed a ‘Spurs At Home’ media campaign to support the government messages and advice. Players such as Dele Alli<\/a> and Harry Kane<\/a> have recorded videos to encourage fans to stay at home.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the ‘Shape Up With Spurs’<\/a> campaign seeks to help keep people fit and active. This is a programme that existed prior to the outbreak; it’s usually a free face-to-face programme in local community centres and spaces. Now, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation coaches have devised at-home workouts for all to follow along with.<\/p>\n

Lastly, like many other clubs, Tottenham<\/a> have been sharing match highlights. This also includes commentary on old matches, as well as broadcasting other matches live.<\/p>\n

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Lights up for NHS<\/h4>\n

The stadium lit up in blue colours on Thursday night<\/a> in homage to the fantastic work of the NHS. This was part of the applause and thanks that sounded across the nation. Furthermore, many of the players, such as Eric Dier<\/a> and Lucas Moura<\/a>, took to social media to share videos of appreciation for the staff.<\/p>\n
