Late Thursday night, Chelsea released a statement regarding the young winger and the partial closure of the training facilities.

Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi First Premier League Player To Test Positive For Coronavirus

Hudson-Odoi’s Condition

“Callum displayed symptoms similar to a mild cold on Monday morning and has not been at the training ground since then as a precaution. However, his test came in positive this evening and he will undergo a period of self-isolation. Despite testing positive for the virus, Callum is doing well and looking forward to returning to the training ground as soon as it is possible” the official statement read.

Thankfully, most people who get coronavirus have shown mild symptoms and recovery from it fairly quickly and painlessly, cited in publications like The Guardian, Newsweek, and ESPN.

Hudson-Odoi joins a growing list of footballers and people in the football world testing positive for the virus. Juventus defender Daniele Rugani tested positive, closely followed Manolo Gabbiadini, before Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and the Chelsea man come down with the virus yesterday evening.

Chelsea Quarantine

The club’s statement went on to say, “Chelsea personnel who had recent close contact with the player in the men’s team building will now self-isolate in line with Government health guidelines. These will include initially the full men’s team squad, coaching staff and a number of backroom staff.”

As of now, Chelsea have not decided to shut everything down, as some clubs have. But certainly, they will be taking every precaution available.

Premier League Postponement Coming?

Several leagues across Europe started playing behind closed doors before suspending the league indefinitely. La Liga, Serie A, MLS, and many more announced they would stop their seasons. The Premier League, though, did not make a similar announcement, instead saying the weekend’s fixtures will go ahead as planned.

That also, though, happened before Arteta’s and Hudson-Odoi’s positive tests. The league announced a meeting for Friday morning to discuss and decide what to do next.

In all likelihood, the Premier League will have to stop operations, for the time being, opening a whole new can of worms when it comes to scheduling, the Champions League, Euros, and more.

Hudson-Odoi hasn’t featured for Chelsea since the beginning of February. And he may not get back on the pitch for a while as the coronavirus continues to wreak havoc on the football world.

Main Photo

Embed from Getty Images

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has become the first Premier League player to test positive for the coronavirus.
