Nemanja Matic<\/a>\u2019s situation at Manchester United<\/a> is not a simple one. At the beginning of the season, it looked as if the Serbian would depart in the summer at the end of his contract, with the likes of Andreas Pereira<\/a> seemingly above him in the central midfield pecking order. Even during United\u2019s relatively successful festive period, Matic was not in the starting team. However, the former Chelsea<\/a> defensive midfielder\u2019s time came at the very end of 2019.<\/p>\n

Since starting his first Premier League<\/a> appearance since September in United\u2019s 2-0 win over Burnley, the 31-year-old has missed just one league match. He has been a great player in their midfield, and Manchester United should consider giving Nemanja Matic a new contract.<\/p>\n

Nemanja Matic may well have earned a new contract with Manchester United with his tremendous performances over the past few months.<\/p>\n

Inconsistent Start to the Season<\/h3>\n

Matic had a very inconsistent start to the 2019\/20 season in terms of game time. In the Premier League\u2019s opening 19 matches, the Serb appeared just three times. This made it extremely unlikely for him to be getting a new contract before the season\u2019s conclusion<\/a>, especially with the United squad undergoing a rebuild focused on youth. Despite this, Matic has gone against the odds and now looks to have earned himself a contract renewal there.<\/p>\n

Impressive Performances May Have Earned Nemanja Matic a New Contract at Manchester United<\/h3>\n

Matic has performed admirably for the Red Devils since his recall to the starting team. He has been a commanding force in their midfield, providing great defensive reinforcements <\/a>and helping his side to many clean sheets recently. He has been a large part of the recently established stability which United seem to be maintaining, and with the Premier League\u2019s suspension having recently occurred, Manchester United could hand Nemanja Matic a new contract before its resumption.<\/p>\n

Why Giving Nemanja Matic a New Contract Would Be a Good Idea<\/h3>\n

While Nemanja Matic does not fit with the youthful characteristics at this United team\u2019s foundation, he can provide greatly needed experience. He has given them stability and seems to be a calming influence on the pitch. While United would not offer him a new contract with the hope of the Serb being a regular starter, they would want him to provide depth, experience, and good game management when they need it most.<\/p>\n
