Manchester City<\/a> manager Pep Guardiola is to remain at Manchester City even if their two-year ban from European competitions is upheld, according to BBC Sport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The news of Manchester City’s ban from Europe started all sorts of rumours of potential departures among the club’s ranks. As well as Guardiola, reports of key players moving out of the door were rife.<\/p>\n

However, it is now anticipated that Guardiola will stay put. His contract, which runs until 2021, has a break clause in it and it was expected he would activate this if City fail to win their appeal. They are to submit this to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in the next few days.<\/p>\n

Guardiola is likely to discuss the issue for the first time this week after City’s re-arranged game against West Ham United<\/a>. It is expected that neither team will do a pre-game press conference as these were already conducted before the original fixture was postponed.<\/p>\n

However, Liverpool<\/a> manager Jurgen Klopp has already had his say on the matter, describing City’s ban as a “shock”.<\/p>\n

The German told reporters<\/a>: “It was a shock when I heard it. In this moment I imagine it’s very hard for them.<\/p>\n

“I have no idea how these things work – what I can say is Manchester City under Pep Guardiola play sensational football. I’ve always admired what they do.<\/p>\n

“To be honest I feel for Pep and the players because, wow, they did, for sure, nothing wrong. They just played football and sensational football.”<\/p>\n

If the ban is upheld, the team that finishes fifth in this season’s Premier League will secure a Champions League spot. Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> currently occupy this place after their late win over Aston Villa<\/a> on Sunday saw them leapfrog Sheffield United<\/a>.<\/p>\n
