The west Berlin club confirmed<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.herthabsc.de\/de\/intern\/ruecktritt-klinsmann-1920\/page\/17166--17-17-.html\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0on February 11<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the German\u2019s decision is effective immediately. The resignation comes as a shock despite a disastrous week for Hertha Berlin. It began with Klinsmann\u2019s side losing at Schalke after giving up a two-goal lead in the final ten minutes. This heartbreaking midweek DFB-Pokal loss was followed by Saturday&#8217;s home Bundesliga defeat to 15th place Mainz. With Hertha now truly embroiled in a relegation battle, Klinsmann <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JuergenKlinsmann\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">argued<\/a> that he did not have &#8220;the trust of the people involved,&#8221; and therefore decided to resign.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>J\u00fcrgen Klinsmann Resigns From Hertha Berlin Role<\/h2>\n<h3>Klinsmann&#8217;s Statement<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JuergenKlinsmann\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> released by Klinsmann on his Facebook page, the German legend argued that during his first months as Hertha Berlin manager in November, the squad was \u201con a very good path.\u201d He is right. When Klinsmann took over from Ante \u010covi\u0107, the squad had lost four Bundesliga matches in a row. Despite losing his first game in charge at home to Borussia Dortmund, Hertha Berlin then finished the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hinrunde <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with some surprisingly good results. This included a draw at Eintracht Frankfurt, a home win over SC Freiburg and a victory at Bayer Leverkusen. The <i>Hinrunde <\/i>ended with\u00a0a home draw against title contenders Borussia M\u00f6nchengladbach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With eight points from five matches, there were murmurings that Klinsmann might be the right man for the job. The former <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/clubs\/bayern-munich\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bayern Munich<\/a> and US Mens&#8217; National Team manager then began making grandiose claims about Hertha Berlin\u2019s future. &#8220;I&#8217;ve always said that Berlin deserves a super club. This is our capital. Berlin and Germany deserve it,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bundesliga.com\/en\/bundesliga\/news\/jurgen-klinsmann-berlin-and-germany-deserve-a-superclub-hertha-bsc-9119\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Klinsmann confidently stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Such claims have become commonplace after German businessman <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/bundesligafanatic.com\/20190729\/the-story-behind-hertha-berlin-investor-lars-windhorst\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lars Windhorst invested<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more than \u20ac100 million into Hertha Berlin last summer. In January, Klinsmann then began to spend like a super club. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transfermarkt.us\/lucas-tousart\/profil\/spieler\/353948\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lucas Tousart<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transfermarkt.co.uk\/krzysztof-piatek\/profil\/spieler\/327757\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Krzysztof Pi\u0105tek<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transfermarkt.co.uk\/santiago-ascacibar\/profil\/spieler\/423436\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Santiago Ascac\u00edbar<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transfermarkt.us\/matheus-cunha\/profil\/spieler\/517894\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matheus Cunha<\/a> were all brought in for more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.transfermarkt.us\/hertha-bsc\/transfers\/verein\/44\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$80 million<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>One Bad Week in Football Can Change Everything<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although Hertha\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">R\u00fcckrunde <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">began with a 4-0 loss in Berlin to Bayern, Klinsmann\u2019s men took all three points in Wolfsburg the following week. The spoils were then shared with Schalke n the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Olympiastadion<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonfootball.com\/2020\/01\/29\/report-tottenham-target-krzysztof-piatek-set-to-sign-for-hertha-berlin\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">January signings <\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ascac\u00edbar and Pi\u0105tek both played, with the latter almost grabbing the winner. Things were looking up for Klinsmann until the final ten minutes against Schalke in the cup. The following loss at home to Mainz would subsequently be the German&#8217;s final match in charge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Klinsmann\u2019s resignation comes at a very inopportune moment for Hertha, but the German argued that it is for the best. \u201cAs head coach, I also need the trust of the people involved in this task, which has not yet been completed. Unity, cohesion and focus on the essentials are the most important elements in a relegation battle. If they are not guaranteed, I cannot exploit my potential as a trainer and therefore cannot live up to my responsibility. Therefore, after much deliberation, I have come to the conclusion to resign as Hertha manager and retire to my original long-term role as a member of the supervisory board,\u201d Klinsmann <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JuergenKlinsmann\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said in his statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>A Replacement for J\u00fcrgen Klinsmann is Yet to Be Announced<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although Klinsmann has resigned as Hertha Berlin Manager, the club are yet to announce a replacement. Former manager and club legend P\u00e1l D\u00e1rdai is always an option. Niko Kova\u010d, another former Hertha player and Berlin native, would be a fan favorite as well. Whoever it is, Hertha Berlin are real relegation candidates.
