Instead, he took his usual stance of taking one game at a time.

He said: “I hope the belief is growing because if you don’t believe now, when will you believe? “They are working hard, they are doing well and they have beaten the best team in the league, and I feel more respect from the opposition.

“All of this will probably give them more confidence. But we have to be careful – and that is another part of my job – because more confidence can be dangerous.

“We have to keep our feet on the floor; be humble, but very determined. We need to be bold.”

Speaking ahead of the trip to Nottingham Forest, Bowyer spoke of his anticipation of a difficult fixture.

“It’s going to be tough,” said Bowyer. “They are not in third place for nothing.

“When we played them at our place I think we surprised them. We should’ve beaten them, I watched the game back yesterday. We were better than them on the night.

“We know we’re capable of doing that, it’s just a case of getting the weekend out of our system and going again. We have to try and win those individual battles more – because a lot of games are won or lost in midfield.”

Main Photo

Nottingham Forest fans will be hopeful of carrying on their fine form when Charlton Athletic visit the City Ground tonight (Tuesday 11 February).
